You guys keep stating no charges but its all about the rate you get minus the transfer charge and in all cases CF are the cheapest, Ive used all the ones you people state and they are not the cheapest IMHO.

I was referring to the charges a Spanish bank would make. CD make no transfer charge. Whether or not their exchange rates are better or worse than others I know not. For the amount I transfer each month a couple of cents here and there are, quite frankly, hardly worth bothering over.

We have used currencies direct.they are the only one we have used so cant compair but as newbies to doing exchanges we were impressed at how quickly the transfer was done and you got emails as every stage was completed keeping you upto date

I've just completed my first trial run with CurrencyFair and have to say I'm more than satisfied with the system. Coupled with my Solbank "Experiéncia" account which allows me free transfers to euro accounts within the euro payments area (CurrencyFair's account is in Ireland so qualifies), it was a seamless, quick & easy transaction and a good rate, and I liked the way they keep you notified via e-mail alerts all the way through - very efficient an dreassuring when moving large amounts. I'll definitely use them to repatriate the funds when our sale goes through, so many thanks to those who recommended them.

Miro, glad to hear that your experience with CurrencyFair was a good one. I've used them many times and always found them to be reliable and very competitive vs. the other options available.

One thing that you and Nimrod might want to consider if/when it comes to transferring a large sum of money from a property sale - it might be worth exploring their 'peer to peer' offer/bid system. I only used it once but it was very easy to use and I was able to get an even better rate than the 'standard' one by offering up the amount and waiting a day or two for other customers trading in the opposite direction to bid with their currency. Not sure if any of the other services mentioned here do that but it's a clever system.

Definitely plan on playing the marketplace when the time comes, but for my trial run with a small amount I took the rate on offer, just to test how quick the transfer would be. Maybe if I'd held out a bit I could've had 2 coffees this morning instead of one!

Need a bit of help at the first hurdle.
I'm filling in the currencyfair online info and am trying to enter the IBAN of my Spanish bank beginning ES35 followed by 20 numbers.
The form won't take the last 2 numbers ...HELP!

Just had a quick look and when I tried to add a Spanish bank account it expects a 24 digit IBAN.

You aren't trying to insert blanks between any of the groups of digits are you?
Cheers

FYI
The IBAN consists of up to 34 alphanumeric characters, so should have plenty of space for Spanish one.

As you say odd.
Just tried it on the app on my Android phone and it expects, and accepts, a 24 character IBAN.
Cheers
