bills

Postby MilkyWay » Sun Feb 14, 2021 8:10 pm

Hi, Hope everybody stays save. Only a quick and I think easy question I plan to relocate to Spain and would like to rent a small flat at first but don't know where at present.

Can anybody tell me how much approximately the bills (electricity, water, council tax and other things) for a single person in a small flat are???

I had already a look on the internet but get always very different figures, so thought the best is to ask the people they live there and know it.

Thank you in advance and greetings from rainy Paignton :(

(Just looked at the weather in Andalucia and be very jealous you must be really happy to be there)

Do you intend to stay permanently on Spain? If so have you looked into the new requirements that you have to conform to since Brexit?

It depends on air con etc but if you budget 30 a month for water, a bit more for electric and then council tax depending on area of 500. Dont forget you will also have a monthly community. The community may be up to 100 euro depending on your urbanisation. Ours is 93 but friends just down the road pay 50.

You have missed the boat to get residence the easy way. Still doable but you may have to jump through a few more hoops. I think you have to go to the embassy in the UK as a starter.

I think MilkyWay is from Germany.
His problem will be different. Not living in the UK for 5 years will mean losing hid UK residence but at least he can spend more time in Spain with no restrictions.

If you are renting then the owner of the property pays the IBI and should also pay any community fees. Some try to add it on but its pretty rare. Electricity is expensive but if its just you maybe 50-60 a month?.

If you only have a british passport you will need to apply for a visa from the spanish embassy first. Wait for that to be granted before you come out. Then you have i think 90 days to apply for your TIE once you get here.

2 bed campo house, our electricity varies between 35 and 85€pm. Internet is 30€ pm (no town water so can't help with that). Do renters pay IBI here (our tenants in the UK pay their own council tax, but when we had flats we had to pay the community charges, not the tenants). I'm sure when we rented here we didn't, only the utility bills.

We rent. We dont pay IBI or community fees. Its the opposite of the uk where the tennant pays everything.

Budget for around 900-1000 a month all in, and you would have some spending money too.

Before my divorce I lived in a 400 sq m house with a large garden, that was expensive to maintain, my ex insisted she be allowed to keep the house as part of the divorce settlement, she's now trying to sell it because of the running costs :silent:

As I no longer keep dogs, have a garden to maintain, have or need a car I find that 40 sq m is more than adequate for me, all bills included too !
