Another casulty of brexit?

Postby spanish_lad » Thu Mar 11, 2021 7:25 pm

Well thats annoying.

Im listening to radio 1 on an app called simple radio.

And they are playing an advert - every half hour or so? - saying that as of the 20th of march, in 9 days, they will only be broadcasting on bbc sounds.

I will have to put a uk vpn on my phone.

Thanks brexit

You can listen to thousands of radio stations from all around the world. Why is the bbc being awkward :(

Try 'TuneIn Radio' the BBC can be hit and miss....but much much more hit than miss

Having said that I would get a VPN anyway on every device I use. They are so cheap now and given that you really should be using them for somethings adding it to your phone for radio stuff won't cost you extra

BBC Sounds can be downloaded from the Google Play Store assuming you have an Android phone. I don't know about the iPhone app store.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... n_US&gl=US

If not there are dozens of other radio apps you could try.

BBC sounds won't give up the full BBC experience without a VPN. Some live programmes are restricted and also downloads...mostly sports though, so it shouldn't effect youngsters who love Radio 1 and the racket it broadcasts masquerading as music

I only use it for Radio 4 Extra. I have never found anything to be blocked and I have other ways of downloading programmes I want to keep.

I stopped using tune in when it changed to a paid app a couple years ago.

Has it changed back to free?

It wasnt an advert on the app, it was an advert on the radio i think?

I use it and it is free. It works well with Amazon smart speakers and you can set it as the default app.

Since I have been using Tune In...say about 3 years there has been an option for a paid app .....but hidden in the top corner is an X to skip the log in bit and pay nothing. Although there is a free login that remembers your favouite stations etc

The only English language station I use it for is BBC and I never get any adds on it at all

This might more to do with BBC policy and other stations do not comply.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/aboutthebbc ... 7139641582

This is one time where not being in the UK benefits us. For example, BBC is not available using Tunein in the UK but is in Spain and anywhere else out side the UK,

The BBC using Simple radio is also working fine on both my Echo and Phone this morning, I tend to stick with the official apps though on my phone because I find the pop up adds annoying.

I use Sounds and Global player mainly and Tunein and Radio player as back ups

Apart from BBC Sounds, I use AIMP then enter the URLs manually. It also has a built in audio recorder.

I just tried it now and it looks as though the URLs have changed for BBC. I have replaced the URLs with new ones now they all work.

I've just checked Radio 1 and it is working.
Do you use a VPN? In this case it might be better to have it switched off while listening
This is the App I have

I run Tune In for BBC 5 live sports on my phone and have a VPN with UK location all the time (VPN permanently switched on anyway). I never have a problem.

Maybe there are other settings like location sharing on the phone that are interfering.

I guess the moral of the story is try a few different apps and see how you get on
