More changes to inheritance tax in Andalucia

Postby Free at Last » Tue Aug 24, 2021 8:41 am

A JdeA spokesperson announced yesterday, in Vélez-Málaga, that the Junta is to introduce more reductions in inheritance tax, which this time will benefit siblings, nieces/nephews and aunts/uncles. I'm very pleased to hear this as I don't have children and was not relishing the fact that my family would have to pay Spanish IHT if I were still to be tax resident when I die.

Good news for me, too, or at least, my nephews BUT is that just a JdeA ruling?

The autonomous regions are able to set their own allowances in respect of inheritance tax if they wish (although there is a national scale of allowances too) so yes, this only applies to Andalucia.

Enjoy the new rules and hopefully other regions will follow.

A point to note is that if you have step children they are classed the same as a stranger and get none of these allowances and also pay 2x the actual tax.

I know a number of people who were not aware of this.

I was not aware of that! I have step-children and one is due to get a house! Maybe I need a rethink and now is the time for it.

I should add that adopted children are classed the same as birth children.
