Ordering Xmas cards from Amazon

Postby jonbar.1 » Sat Oct 01, 2022 4:54 pm

We would like to order Xmas cards from Amazon.es.
There is a good choice of British "Charity" cards available.
The UK suppliers do not deliver to Amazon pick-up points. They will only deliver to our home address.( we are resident in Spain).
This suggests that they may use the Royal Mail/Correos.
We ordered cards last Xmas from Amazon.es without any delivery problems, however Brexit may now have changed things.
Has anyone had any experience of delivery charges imposed by the Correos on Amazon.es orders (when the products are from UK) ?
Thankyou
JB

I don't think Correos impose the charges, they just collect them on behalf of customs.
Possibly part of the charge goes to Correos.
To answer your question I have been charged more import duty etc. via Correos, than the value of the goods received.
Although these items weren't from Amazon UK.
Some other items I have bought from Ebay UK have been sent via a central third-party shipper for, usually, a standard fee that doesn't reflect the value of the goods.
Cheers

Cheers Gerry.
I suspected we'd end up paying through the nose in some way.
We no longer order from Amazon Uk for that reason.
We order loads from "es" but the goods don't usually come from UK.Plus they can usually deliver to a pick-up point.
Looks like we'll have to make do with the abismal choice if cards available in our area.I'm afraid Greetings -Cards are not exactly a Spanish forté.

You could try Moonpig.
A huge selection that you can customise and rapid dispatch and delivery in the UK.
That is what we use as the choice of "English" cards in Spain is very limited.

Good point Gerry. Hardly anyone sends cards anymore. When I sent them from Spain many didn't arrive.

If I'm honest Katy; I don't send cards, my Missus does :P
Oddly enough no Greetings card, sent from Spain has ever failed to reach it's UK destination.
( pure luck probably)

Have you not tried the English supermarkets Jonbar? Russells usually stocks them, and although a bit of a trek, Arkwrights in Viñuela also will have them although you could ring to see if they have them in the shop this early.

The other week Dunnes had started to stock the Christmas decorations .... pretty unbelievable in September! Far too early, but in the past they've had cards as well. Smiffs in Nerja will also have them and sometimes the charity shops used to stock them (Cudeca shop in Nerja perhaps?). I think it will be cheaper and easier than relying on the post and possible customs hassles from the UK.

Thanks Wicksey for all your info.Much.appreciated.
We have actually looked at all those options.
We were in Dunnes today. They have no Xmas cards( as yet).
Smiffs' card selection is like the stuff my aunties used to send us.
We love Russells but their card styles are almost as old-fashioned as Smiffs.
My missus is planning a trip to Gib soon.Maybe " M&S" or "Next"....or even "Morrisons"
Thanks again Wicksey

I'm sure she'll find something in Gib Jonbar. I send few cards these days so one mixed box last us for years!

We are now down to 11, the others (it was 57 when in the UK) get an electronic greeting. The 11 get a Moonpig or equivalent.
Didn't take too many non-deliveries at 1.85€ a go for us to stop sending from Spain.

What pees me off is getting cards from people I haven’t seen all year with no message or catch up. I just stop sending one back.
