Xmas Cards to UK

Postby jonbar.1 » Fri Nov 18, 2022 9:40 am

My Missus is about to send her usual batch of cards to people in UK.
We are still a little uncertain about the stamp requirements. For example is one stamp enough to post an A5 envelope/ card ?
Does the colour of the envelope matter?
( would like to avoid,if possible, queueing at the correos  )
Any tips appreciated.
Thankyou. JB

In my experience, I have found that envelope colour, as does size shape and weight, does matter.
The only way of getting the correct postage paid is to go into your local Correos.

I found that out last year, that an envelope I thought was 'normal' wasn't as it was a small square instead of the standard oblong shape. I ended up buying some cards that fitted the standard criteria. I was told that if it was anything other than the standard size and shape it has to be processed manually, hence the extra cost. I took one in just to check before I wrote them out, thankfully Torrox pueblo PO is often pretty empty at the times I go.

Thanks Wicksey & Gerry.
Last year we sent a batch of the "16cm square" cards with one stamp with no problem.
Unfortunately this year ( because of the appalling choice locally) we have bought A5 size so don't want to risk one stamp.
Maybe bite-the-bullet and queue at the Correos : :x

We now use the Moonpig app for all our cards to the UK.
A large selection of designs and all can be personalised.
Posted from within the UK and arrive 3-4 days later.

I use Moonpig or Funky Pigeon for UK birthdays. There are few to send these days and the cost is not really any different from buying a card and stamp. I have bought cheaper cards when visiting the UK which helps cut the cost, but never usually buy them here as they're so expensive. Just need to be aware of possible Royal Mail strikes coming up in December.

We posted a physical xmas card to family in Oz last year at end of Oct. It arrived in the March of the following year. This year we sent it to England then had it posted ( £2.58) and it is already there. Maybe Spain waits till there is a bag full.
