The rest of the article paints a grim picture.

Going back a few years our village water company specified “ aim for no more than 540 litros a day.” Seems like a lot but easily exceeded. That was the amount the village well delivered per day per household. Weekends were always a problem as second houses hosted parties.

200 per person is not a lot especially if you have plants and animals.

Our average consumption for both of us was 215 litres per day.
So 107.5 litres per person
This was taken from my last water bill for a 55-day period.
I'm sure we could easily use less.

agree it's not too difficult to limit one's own use of water but vegetables/salads/fruit in gardens need water, especially and obviously in long and continuous hot weather

with a long hot summeer in mind, I have been trying to plant heat resistant things like okra, swiss chard, amaranth, sweet potatoes ... none of which I have tried before ... vamos a ver!

No doubt El Nino will help set some more records this year.

LA1 had a plague of insects due to the unusual high temps coupled with the lack of rain. Plus the Donana situation . I couldnt believe how they irrigated strawberries. Very wasteful.

We have a private arrangment with a neighbour for water so don't receive bills as such. We did make a note of our meter in February (as we had once again run out of water  ) and just checked now. Our usage averages out at 412L per day which isn't bad considering that we've had to irrigate at times as its been so unusually hot and we've not had any rain. So using 200L per person per day for a townhouse without a garden for example should be easy to achieve.

End of last year we had our own water deposito installed that holds 5000L so when our neighbour's tank runs dry we have some of our own in reserve. If we are careful then it should last at least 2 weeks if we need to rely on that until the main tank is filled as it will only be used in the house.

It’s the latest cunning plan. Burn all the trees and then they won’t need water. Drought problem solved!

How on earth is that going to work? Iznajar pantano is currently at only 19% capacity entering the start of the long dry season!
