A friend has just been fined 250€ for turning left into a petrol station on the Velez-Casabemeja road. He has used the garage for some 8 years and has always done that and so everyone else. There are no signs up saying no left turn. It's not a busy stretch of road and even the guy on the pumps was surprized,I think he should appeal.

Is there a continuous white line in the centre of the road?

Hi mhic

Is there a solid white line down the centre of the road?
If so, I’m afraid it’s a fair cop, no need for signs.
Remember what the old driving instructors used to say, “Always consider a solid white line to be a brick wall”.
The fact that everyone else does it is not an excuse, just bad luck on this occasion.

Thanks.

Been a while since I used that garage and can't remember if there is a line or no, but I'll pass it on to my friend.

Great minds think alike, Gretch.

You can only cross a continuous white line if there are a series of broken lines in it opposite the turning or junction (then it wouldn't be continuous, would it?) otherwise you have to carry on until you can do a 'cambio de sentido' or you come to a roundabout.

Same rules apply in the UK!

€250 though!
You don't get that in "rip-off Britain"

Very true, in Britain you would get 3 points on your licence and a £60 fine. Personally, I'd rather pay the €250 and be on my way.
I'm nobody :( and nobody's perfect. Therefore, I'm perfect

Error, due to wife being told about the incident then gossiping with her pal for ages afterwards.

My friend was actually fined 150e which was reduced by a third through prompt payment. Very nearly did the same thing myself yesterday but spotted the Guardia parked up in the garage.
