We have potluck session once a month and everyone takes turn in hosting. Some of us live about an hour apart.

Back to topic, Holmes, it's not 15E out of pocket the issue, the main contention is the distance for us to travel. We are talking of about more than 4 hours driving *one way* to an unknown place and to top it all, we hardly know anyone .

Wishing you guys have a rolling good time. :P

Why don't they incorporate an 'ignore' button, problem solved.
Wishing there is an 'edit' button too

jade!!! its just a load of us getting together at a bar for a few drinks, somewhere where food is avaliable, if we want to eat we´ll sit down and eat, if not, we´ll all just stay at the bar ! no1 is booking a table, and no1 is taking any money, ya´ll pay for yourselves :D
What an excellent idea ... but it's still too far for us to travel for the event

[quote="spanish_lad"]hahaha i just thought, if i, or "asiwalkedout" are taking the money for the resturant, dont forget that *Yawn* has to pay per head ;) if he brings 5 alter-ego´s, it´ll cost him 90€ for him and his 5 friends ;)

awww lorraine.. thats no good, when are you back ?

asiwalkedout - shame she wont be here, be cool to talk to her after i´ve heard so much about her :) be good to meet u too, u sound cool ;)[/quote

*yawn*, I'm fairly sure wouldn't want to be associated with anything that costs a mere 15 euros, personally I shudder to think what standard of food and service I would get for that price!

guest i take it you live in alhaurin then ?

asiwalkedout ...why did we bother putting this up in the first place ?

lorraine-mijas feel free to suggest something else? perhaps you know of a nice place in mijas? what about the ones on the road to fuengerola ? are they any good ? whats route 66 like ? i´ve never been in there. or the octagon one? or the one up the steps by the bus stop in mijas ?

Barry Detts Where the hell do you eat?? A 4 course meal with coffee and wine at Sol Andalusi, a black tie restuarant, 4 stars and written up as one of the best in the area, has a set menu, with 7 choices of main course for 15 euros a head. The waiters and waitresses are in full uniform, with bow ties and aprons. at a glance it could be a resturant in knightsbridge.

where do you eat in alhaurin ? you must be very limited for choice if you think that 15 euros is too little to pay for a meal. i would bet you eat entrecot steak at casa paco´s, or substitute that every thursday for a full lobster, picked from the selection of live ones they keep in a tank there  you ever been for a chinese in alhaurin? thats only 9 euros a head. ever been to venta la Recta on the road to Alh. de la Torre? thats 7.50 a head, for 3 courses. wether you have that or the "a la carte" menu, the service is the same. have you ever been to the restuant las Brisas? slightly over 15 euros a head, at 18 with half a bottle of wine, thats a 3 course meal too. if you are that stuck up, why choose to live in a town where "better quality" restuarants are limited? you should of moved to marbella.

ooks like a waste of time suggesting it then really. i´m glad that everyone living in spain is so .. adaptable. perhaps if you all remembered for just a few seconds that we are not all rich, stuck up, pension collecting, G&T drinking on the terrace of our fincas down tracks that take 30 minutes to get from a main road to your house (but life is sooo much better in spain  ), perhaps if you all took off the rose tinted glasses and realised that this was never meant to be a organised ticketed with bouncers event, but merely a load of people that dont really know each other, to give them a chance to get to know each other.. then maybe, just maybe something might come of it.

the way this thread is going, its not looking like its going to happen anyways :( bloody waste of time suggesting anything different to you lot, it always gets ridiculed. perhaps if you tried something out of the ordinary your lives might be a bit more interesting, rather than the same boring routine.

*beep* forget it.

Same boring routine!

It´s called having a full time Job and having to be in the office everyday (allday), which includes being sat at a PC and yes I do do some work hence only the few postings you see from me.

Ian

Spanish lad, I've no wish to offend, you or anyone else, but I really have to say that, in MY experience I haven't eaten in a restaurant recently for that price.
To be honest I don't go out that much, if I do it's usually for a pint in the Black Horse, or over to Cartama to the Painters,(if I can find a designated driver!!
I work weird hours so don't socialise much, I have to say that the few times I do get out I usually have to pay through the nose for my grub.
I haven't tried any of these but most of them are pretty local
so I'll give them a go!. Just to set the record straight I'm not rich or a snob, maybe I've just been going to the wrong places although I have been in La Recta and have to say it was ok, but no more than that, I'll try Las Brisas though, gotta say my favorite is Casa Juans in La Carihuela but it's a pain in the ++++ getting there and back, taxi costs I mean!!
Don't tar us all with the same brush!!

Spanish Lad, Asiwalkedout, don't let the likes of Topp3r dampen your xmas social spirit.
You would never end up with a large number of people from these boards wanting to join you, for numerous reasons, but even if you end up with half a dozen like minded people and have a good night out then it's a success isn't it?
Seriously if the right location I would have considered joining you but that week is just not good for me timewise.
Just go ahead and do it, you will probably have a good night out. :D
I wear it well...........

my sentiments exactly Maggie May - we'll definitely do something - don't worry Spanish Lad! - I suspect it will only be a few but we can still have fun for 15 euros! It was just an idea to do something different. No biggy.

Regarding costs - we set the 15 euro mark so as not to exclude anyone who might find it difficult to spend more on a get together. Though in my experience cost is not necessarily related to quality!!

You can count me in if you end up doing something in the Alhaurin/Malaga area, but not Marbella as I'm allergic!

you travel to La Carihuela for dinner  it must be good !! you could try las brisas if it was still a resturant, it was the resturant a the hotel brisamer, which has now been sold to bhuddist monks. theres no longer a resturant, just a tea shop, and there is no alcohol.

i wouldn´t of imagined someone who frequents the black horse to be the sort of person that even knows where to find a nice resturant. have you tried their "gutbuster brekfast" ? it really is an experience. i wouldn´t recomend the black horse as somewhere to go, well, not for a meal anyways, as the food there consists mainly of burgers and bacon rolls. Although its good if you really cant pass the day without a decent mug of tea. Although any meal there, with drinks will cost you under 15€ so perhaps you should try it. i wouldn´t rage about the service tho. Tell Vernon i said hello ;)

do you ever eat / drink in spanish bars ?

hillybilly it´d be novel to meet you, being that you live only minutes from my friends house and only an hours drive from alhaurin hilly, of course you are invited, i´ll keep you informed :)

maggiemay that date was only suggested because thats when asiwalkedout will be in spain. perhaps there can be a different date set aside ?

ian.wilson same boring routine as in eating in the same places, socialising with the same people, drinking in the same bars. i dont mean during the day. whens the last time you went out and met up with someone you didn´t know ?

Spanish
Just ignore Barry Detts (R.I.P.), Sid Barret or any other anagram of those names, they are just some of T0ppers Kamikaze creations designed to be booted leaving a few which he occasionally rests or sends to Iraq in relative safety to be resurrected every now and again to say something sarcastic.
Don't let the fool put you off arranging what could probably be a good night out.
It is interesting to note your description of the Black Horse and it's menu. Burgers and greasy fry ups in not too salubrious surroundings sounds just like tops cup of tea and actually describes his 'Business' ventures. Perhaps inadvertently you have stumbled upon Tops real ID. Landlord and master chef of the Black Horse.

Spanish Lad, I don't know about the Black Horse is it in the east end? I'll tell you one thing though, Casa Juans in La Carihuela is one of the most respected restaurants in the area and about as Spanish as you can get, you would struggle to find more than ten percent of the customers foreigners, I was there last August it was full every night.
Why not go and see for yourself, while your there ask to see the award room , it's upstairs in the circular balcony overlooking the fountain, that's Juans office and it's full of awards for the food and service!! who is it that dosen't get out much??

Spanish_Lad,

Actually the last time we went out was Wednesday 30th November 2005 and we met up with some people we had never met before and had a great night. Sore head at work the next morning though.

I`m on holiday from work from 19th December until 2nd January so I am up for a drink with everyone just depends on where and when.

Regards

ok well it doesn't have to be between Christmas and New Year if this is too difficult for most people - please see date options below. Also I've had an email from the MD of Andalucia.com offering to help with the get together - not sure what form that help will take yet but maybe they will throw in some wine and party hats?? In terms of area it seems that most people are favouring the Marbella area alhough Alhuarin is a hot second favourite.

Possible dates:
December 17th(sat), December 20th (Tues), December 22nd(Thurs), December 29th(Thurs) December 30th (friday)
