wood burners
Could anyone tell me about how much it cost to run a wood burner for a week?

I have installed a good quality cast iron multifuel stove in a house I rent out.
I bought a supply of the most incredible solid fuel which burns for ages and puts out an enormous amount of heat. The tenants use it 24/7 and is costs them 19 euros a week. Fuel cost was 90 cents a sack when buying min half a tonne.
The house is approx 130m2.

wood burner
We went over to spain beginning of Jan, it was wet and cold. Spent 48e in the first week on logs, didn't have fire on all through the day. Does any one know if you can put coal on the wood burners?

There was a question on this a few weeks ago. Perhaps you could do a search on "coal on wood burners".
It was my question, and my sister has used coal with the wood and it seems to burn OK.
The general consensus was that the coal might burn a bit too hot for the stove.
Before we put the ashes on the garden we sieve the ashes through a soil type sieve and save the charcoal. This we put back on the fire and it burns well. Its a bit fiddly, but then we just have ashes on the garden and not bits of coal/charcoal.

We light a fire in the woodburner every night except when we are out.
The first lot of wood we bought cost €75 for a cubic metre and lasted about a month. It was olive wood, mainly root and we didn't like it.
We now collect from a yard and pay €30 for a boot and backseat full, which lasts about 3 weeks. Mind you we supplement with driftwood from the beach.

Remember that everything that Fred Astaire did, Ginger Rogers did too; except she did it backwards and wearing high heels!

I think it is similar to Coalite in the UK. It was supplied in unmarked bags and the bill just says carbon mineral.gretch wrote:Bongtrees, any chance you can give us more information on your ?most incredible solid fuel?.
Cheers gretch
We got it delivered from a town inland together with oak logs. Doubt it could be used in anything but a cast iron stove as would buckle and melt one of the cheap pressed steel ones.

Wood Burner
We paid a bit extra and got our stove from Brompi's in Lucena.
We then paid 200 euros for a pile of mainly seasoned olive wood the size of around two cars. Reckon it will last at least two winters if not three and that is with fire going lunchtime through to bedtime 7 days a week

As with everything you get what you pay for.jan400 wrote:Can anyone tell me how much I should expect to pay for a woodburner? Thanks.
If you live here permanently its well worth investing in a cast iron stove, more heat, more reliable, less danger. Expect to pay from 1000 euros depending on size of area to be heated.

You are far too simplistic spanishlad. It is 'Carbon Mineral' Granted coal is a carbon mineral but that doesn't sound so special or sexy.coalite? its just bags of coal then?
Old pallets and compressed paper could also become carbon mineral.
