VAN REQUIRED

Postby waterlily » Thu Jun 01, 2006 3:50 pm

H there,

We have finally sold our house in the UK and need to bring our remaining furniture etc over. Does anyone know if its cheaper to hire a van here rather than the uk, at least its not got to be returned to the UK after the event.
If any one has any advice on the best way to do this or have any other suggestions I would be very grateful.

Thanks

Waterlily x

Van Hire in UK

Postby Liz Fox » Fri Jun 02, 2006 10:05 am

Hi. You might find it different now - but when we tried to hire a van in the UK we weren't allowed to take it abroad. However, Spanish hire vans do not have that restriction. Maybe that should be the first question you ask - of the UK hire companies.

Hi Liz, I don't know if this idea is of any use to you but, have you considered buying a van in Spain, taking care of your moving business, then selling it when you get back to Spain, a friend of mine did this some years ago and actually broke even, ie in the end it cost him only petrol money, If I remember correctly he sold the van for more than he paid for it, might be worth thinking about.
Alternatively do you know anyone with a van who wants stuff bringing from the UK and would be prepared to loan you the van in exchange for your labour and trouble? :)

I would hire in Spain and at least when you have unloaded you only have to drop the van off locally and you can start to enjoy your new life without all the grief of having to drive back to the uk to return a hire vehicle
