Solar System

Postby claire82 » Tue Jan 30, 2007 10:34 am

Hi there!

I would like to know how much a new solar system would cost to buy and install, without the added back up of a generator. The house at present is wired throughout, but the current owners are taking the panel's away.

Many thanks!

Maybe worth making them an offer on there's as when they take them there probably going to have to pay someone to fit them to there new house and your going to have to pay someone too if you buy new ones .Ide just get the model number see if you can get a price for new ones the maybe offer the 60 percent of what they are going to cost new its worth a try.
It always seems imposible until its done. Nelson Mandela

To run lights, TV, PC and stereo you could probably get away with 4 panels and 2 x 12volt batteries. But you need an inverter to change to 230volts. It's better to buy ambient light panels which work better when it's cloudy. This could cost as little as 2500 euros plus the inverter at around 900 euros. However to get the whole system off of the generator could cost a packet. The washing machine seems to be the worst using up to 4 panels and 2 batteries on it's own. Don't use the big 2volt batteries as they don't seem to work well. Gel batteries have been highly recommended and don't need the maintenance of topping up the water. Halogen lights use up lot's of power. We know people who have spent up to 20,000 euros but it really depends on how many high power appliances you use. If in doubt don't rush into it and ask other people who have solar systems to see how effective they are especially on cloudy days. PS don't let your sellers take the panels with them or at least as Swerve suggests make them an offer. It's definitely worth it as there is a minefield of confusing information out there from many different solar installation companies. :?
