I had forgotten what sea bass was in Spanish (lubina) but came across the useful-looking http://www.gomadrid.com/dict/b2.shtml where you can translate terms either way.
If you want it, access and add it to your favourites quickly, as links vanish here sometimes......

Remember a few weeks/months back there was a debate here on what sort of fish rosada is?....there were a few various suggestions.

I checked rosada out on this link and it wasn't there.............wonder if it's because there is no English equivelent?

I thought rosada was grouper or mero or kingclip or wolf fish or ocean catfish or red hake or pink cusk-eel :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :? :? :? :?
Had it loads of time in numerous different restaurants and it is never the same. Generally the pink fish of the day from the market I guess :!: :lol:
is the sun over the yardarm yet ?

Rosada is Genypterus Blacodes or Genypterus Capensis - try that in Google. It is imported mainly from the South Atlantic fisheries.

Of the names you mention, Kingclip and pink Cuskeel are correct and so is pink Ling.

Mero is grouper but the name is sometimes used for similar large rockfish.

Hi all,
I am thinking of my winter visit where I take over a pack of cornflour (for thickening)
I am struggling to find the package name for this, which will save me carrying over, ( customs_white powder don't mix )
can I can buy locally instead - (it's not in the link.)

Can anyone give me the spanish name for it? Thanks in advance

Maizena is corn flour comes in a yellow box packet .

Maizena is just the trade name - they make many products.

The Maizena cornflour is marked "Harina Fina de Maiz".

El Cid...Maizena is just the trade name.. even so..you will find that Spanish people ask for maizena when they want harina fina de maiz... try yourself.. asking for ..harina fina de maiz.. in any small shop..even in recipes they use the word maizena...or ask any spanish person what maizena is...they will tell you what it is used for but will not tell you that it is.. harina fina de maiz.

Yes of course that is the case, we both know that, but an occasional visitor looking for Maizena in a supermarket could easily pick the wrong box such as the thickening flour they make called "Espesante Instantaneo in a similar yellow box.
