Postby karandjon » Tue Apr 08, 2008 2:58 pm

Quick, i need help. i´ve bought a Roti Vacuno..., but don´t know how to cook it!!

i´ve opened the clear box, but it is in vacuum packed stuff.

do i take it out of the vacuum packed stuff, how long do i put it in the oven (my oven has no numbers, but is gas). there are instructions and i thought my spanish was okay, but seriously, i cannot decipher it one iota!!!

any help gratefully appreciated. its hubbys birthday and we were going out, but the weather is so bad i thought i´d make a special meal in!!! ooerrrrr!!!

thanks

Thanks VaIl, well, this is the first joint of Beef we´d had since we left England 5 years ago...and how delicious it was!

I got this from Mercadona and really recommend it. It is the first time I have actually seen a joint of beef for sale over here!

In the end, i just cut open the packaging, wrapped the joint in foil, put it in a baking dish and lobbed it in the oven, on very low, for 2 hours.

Upon carving, the meat just melted in your mouth! Scrummy! And at €11 a kilo, i´ll certainly be buying again!! Even I didn´t go wrong!!!

(And with a home-made sherry trifle for afters, hubby says he won´t want to go out for a birthday meal ever again!!)

......and still the rain hasn´t stopped. Our trees are loving this!!

If you liked the beef roti from Marcadona then try also the marinated cerdo. Slow roast for 3.5 hrs or so depending on the size. Normal slow roast rule is 20 mins per pound plus 20 mins. Works for many meats. Mercadona pork roast is very good. Comes with a "mushroom sauce" but I recommend adding some fresh mushrooms cooked off in butter first to give it a bit of real taste and texture.

Can someone humour me..

What's the English translation of Roti Vacuno?

I know Vacuno is basically Beef/cattle but Roti always meant a type of bread to me.

Griff, if I see a piece of meat labelled "roti", to me it is just a chunk for roasting. And the mercadona cerdo roti marinado says to cook it with shallow liquid in the dish so I guess you could choose water, beer or wine if you fancy. I use the remaining liquid after cooking to make up the mushroom sauce after removing as much fat as possible.

Ooooh, sounds delicious, Ron! I am going to have to try that too. Now, i just hope our Mercadona gets some more joints in, as it is the first time i had seen them there, and it was the only one on the shelf!

Not sure if these links will be of any use to anyone but I thought I would post them in any event, just in case.

I have these sort of things on my own forum to help my members, and to date they have proved very useful.
