That really takes me back, Anis ..... I think I can remember every sweet in the box! On payday (Fridays) my Dad used to either buy a box of Weekend, or a box of Maltesers for us all, or sometimes a Fry's chocolate bar, like the chocolate cream but every segment was a different flavour (orange fondant, mint, coconut etc) for each of us. Ahhhh .... the simple pleasures in life .......anis wrote: I used to love the boxes of Weekend assortment because they had fondants, fudges, chocs, nougat and jellies.

Re: favourites from our childhood
I love flying saucers! You can still get most of these old favourites on sites like aquarterof.com and so on. But.....no Galaxy counters! (Not yet, think I might start a campaign to bring them back!)

Do you remember the frozen Jubbly?
You have to be of a certain age to remember this pyramid type shaped frozen fruit drink.
Or the Tiffin bar?
Chocolate on the outside and bits of biscuit and other stuff inside.
Who remembers going to Sainsburys when it was a neighbourhood shop, the walls lined with white tiles, the floor sloped so it could be washed down and the butter in huge chunks that had to be "patted" up and packed in greaseproof paper.
Those were the days!

I went into a shop near the bullring in Banus, on the counter were Revels! Spanish shop too. I used to like those, except the hard centres which I gave to the dog.
What is the name of that frozen drink they sell here, in a glass, similar to Jubbly but lemon. on the ti of my tongue. It's good though

Worst sweets ever were Old English Spangles.....glad they vanished without trace
Property owner in Andalucia since 2002. How time flies.
Re: favourites from our childhood
My gran used to eat them, horrible, I would rather have a spoonful of milk of magnesia than one of her spangles And empire mixture.

And gobstoppers that were so big they really did stop up your gob.
I doubt if health and safety would allow them today.

This probably isn't politically correct but who remembers buying Domino cigarettes?
You probably won't remember them unless you are 60 or over.
They were sold in simple paper packs of 5 or maybe 4,much like the US pack, and were a bit thinner than normal and maybe they were a tanner a pack
I think they were aimed at school kids.
It worked!

Re: favourites from our childhood
I remember Walnut Whips when they had half a walnut on top and half a walnut at the bottom too! They also did a coffee flavour one - my favorite.
Now then, does anyone remember Toffee Crisp in PLAIN chocolate? They still make the milk chocolate ones but the plain chocolate one was divine - it used to be in a blue wrapper as opposed to the orange one.
And I remember buying chocolate cigarettes that came in a very authentice looking soft pack. I used to pretend they were real and that I looked dead cool smoking - I would have been about 8....

Just to add my two penneth. I have fond memories of my Grandma's sweetie tin which contained black jacks, love hearts & fruit salads. Not so fond memories include fishermans friend, victory V's and some really tiny little black liquoricey type things - and I can't remember what they were called.

I remember those licorice things. They were tiny and square shaped and really packed a flavour.
I think that's where I got my taste for anis, munching on those, aniseed balls, licorice and black jacks and chewing on spanish wood - I must have been a weird child ?
I can't remember the name either- something "devils " perhaps ?

Thanks PP - must look out for them - a trip down memory lane for me. I rarely go to UK so that's probably why I have never seen them.

Anis, just an update for you! The Imps~
The sweet shop in Carrefour (BELROS)definately have them,we are sure the packet name begins with a "J" ,My husband said thats where he got his last packet from.
We went last week to buy some so i could take a pic for you,but they had none in..
I will post a pic for you, when they get some more in..hopefully they arent doing a mercadonna and stopping selling some ranges of sweeties.
