favourites from our childhood
favourites from our childhood
I'm so disappointed as I recently got a box of Black Magic only to find they had no centres, no lemon or orange fondants, just solid blocks of plain choc that were "flavoured" I started reminiscing about sweets from my childhood, ruffle bars, midnight mint ice cream bars, galaxy counters....... but can anyone remember Rolf Harris advertising these flat choc counter thingys that had stringy toffee/caramel in the middle? I want some of those and I want them - NOW!!!!!!!

Re: favourites from our childhood
The fondants were my favourites in Black Magic, Scot.
I used to love the boxes of Weekend assortment because they had fondants, fudges, chocs, nougat and jellies. I think they were made by Mackintosh.
Not particularly expensive and the chocolate wasn't the best quality either, just cheap and cheerful.
I've been looking for them in UK for ages but never seem to find any.

Chelsea Whoppers were my favourite. They didn't have any wrapper, the shopkeeper handed you a large box of them and you took what you wanted!
And a remember a small tube of sickenly sweet sweets (!) were they called 'parma violets ?

Oh I loved parma violets - i liked the smell! As a teenager I used to buy an aftershave made by Geoffrey Beene called Grey Flannel as it had the same smell - delicious
What about the Rolf Harris ad - does no one remember?

How about Treets, Glees and mint Opal Fruits ('made to make your mouth water..')? My Dad worked at Mars and every Friday used to come home armed with bags of mis-shapen sweets - I remember having so many more friends then

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, STOP TALKING ABOUT SWEETS AND CHOCOLATES
I´m diabetic and not allowed any I do have the odd square of high chocolate content dark chocolate now and again, but it just isn´t the same as a nice Cadburys flake (on a banana sandwich )

Re: favourites from our childhood
Thank goodness you can still get Parma violets, floral gums and cherry lips, but.....I want Galaxy counters to come back, preferably in HUGE bags!
Re: favourites from our childhood
Went to Iceland today - in the cupboard - as we speak - chocolate raisins, minstrels, frys choc cream, orange kit kats and Cadburys snack bars
Re: favourites from our childhood
I was there today buying Frys chocolate cream (ate it before I got out of the carpark ) and walnut whips, they are still in the fridge. I think minstrels were the replacement for galaxy counters, nowhere near as good. I still crave after potato puffs, nobody seems to remember them, maybe they were a figment of my imagination.
It's not been altogether good for me that Iceland opening

Yep, I remember buying them from the school tuck shop - lovely flavour and not too salty - not seen them for years tho
Re: favourites from our childhood
They did have a very brief revival, that was many years ago too. But obviously didn't do well, kids today have no taste!
