In several English language recipe books of Spanish recipes, they say to use Smoked Spanish Paprika or perhaps Smoked Pimiento.
I've found smoked paprika in the UK, but in the supermarkets and shops around and in Torre del Mar, Caleta de Velez, Competa, and Canillas de Albaida, I can find Pimiento Picante, and Pimento Dulce, but not smoked.
Does anyone know where (in those areas above), I can find the smoked variety?

"de la vera" indicates that it comes from Cáceres area. If you want ordinary smoked paprika from other areas, you want "pimentón ahumado". Have you tried the spice stalls in local markets?silver wrote:called pimenton de la vera...

Thanks Silver and also to you frank.
I was desperately trying to remember "ahumado" last night when I made my post.
I did try the stalls in Torre del Mar market last week, but without success. I shall check again next trip.

I couldn't find it anywhere locally and ended up buying the one Silver has done the link to (La Chinata) in the UK last year (possibly in Tescos). I searched the supermarkets on subsequent visits to England but couldn't find it again. I'd also like to know if you can buy it around here. It is delicious and a little goes a long way, but I want to know that I can get it again as I am rationing this tin out (and it's only a 70g tin).

I recognised the La Chinata tin as one that we had in the UK some four or five years ago, I think it came from Sainsburys. I'll try to get there at the weekend and see if my memory is right.

Thanks for that link, looks like Sainsbury is the place to go, found quite a few on eBay UK too, but all more expensive than Sainsbury before you add the P&P.
Looks like it could be a case of bringing coals to Newcastle on the next trip.

I always thought you need some sort of membership card or something for them ... isn't it a cash and carry for trade?peteroldracer wrote:Makro, just before Málaga airport, do tins and tins of it.

I don't know how restrictive they are for applicants - we use a card from the UK, and they never swipe it or anything, just wave us in and put "extranjero" on the receipt. Of course we pay cash, it may be trickier to get an account. May be worth calling in if you are down that way and see if they will register you at the desk with a passport & NIE?
