Have a look at this Bodega near Ronda, he produces some good wines, including a Pinot Noir

At €27 a bottle they should be good!

Ken can get 45 bottles of the Aldi wine for that price!

We regularly stay in a nice place outside of Ronda, and the owner there seems to know a lot about the local wine, he stocks it. The area does seem to be getting some good press, but as Sid points out, it's not the cheap end of the market! He has given us bottles in the past, and it was very good, but I don't think it was a £27 one! :lolno: Mind you, this month they did give us an Albariño as we left that they sell for €18, so who knows!

"Pinot Noir" is indeed the grape variety red burgandy is made from.

A lot of "Pinot Noir" wine is also now produced in New Zealand ( and some in other countries ), however, as it is not French, they can't put burgundy on the bottle, and call the wine Pinot Noir.

"Most red burgundies, certainly the classic ones, are made from Pinot Noir".

I spotted just the wine for Ken2 today.

It comes in a nice 4.5 litre packaging (a Jereboam).

Chateau Latour 1961.

An absolute snip at the Sothebys auction - £135000.

No, Beaujolais is classed as a Burgundy wine and is made from the Gamay grape.

As I said, the classic Burgundy wines are Pinot Noir.

I agree with the above......but this is Beaujolais we are talking about.

For the word "Burgundy" to appear on the front of a French bottle of wine ( and no other country can use the term Burgundy ), the grape must be Pinot Noir, nothing else !

Just bow to superior knowledge !

I will happily bow to superior knowledge. :D

Read the link I posted - I do think they know what they are talking about - certainly more than either of us.

They are clear that Beaujolais is a wine from the Burgundy region and it is made from Gamay.

If you think you know more about it than the Official Burgundy Website then perhaps you should advise them that they have got it all wrong after - as they put it - A Thousand Years of Heritage.

If you cannot accept that then we shall have to agree to differ. I can't be bothered to waste any more time discussing the semantics of "Burgundy". :silent: :silent:

YES, that is true, but it is not "burgundy" , which in France is made from Pinot Noir, it is Beaujolais ( do not get me started on the different beaujolais ! )
