The big problem with only drinking white wine.

Everyone gives you red as a pressie or gift. Just had 6 nice bottles handed in with a thank you card for a small favour we did for someone recently..............very kind of them and appreciated but all flippin' red again. The stockpile of this stuff is growing .............and now we have to go out and buy some white for this week

Scotch is another one..........cupboards full of it, yet I don't drink spirits ............BRING ME CRATES OF BEER INSTEAD

There's only one alcoholic beverage I dislike more than red wine and it's the dreaded Fincabrau.........I almost Barrf every time I taste it

Having said all that though, OH keeps saying red is bueno for you and we must start drinking it...........only thing is whether its a 2 euro bottle or a multi£ bottle it all tastes like iron to me, and drinking it warm ....philistine I know.

Yes but i don't mind that so much - it is handy for cooking with. It is the cupboard full of rosé and cava I can't shift

Roz, you got me there......we do actually like Tintos in Spain .......but it doesn't taste like red wine then does it.

White wine gives me raging heartburn but I've never had a problem with red.
I find beer too gassy. Whisky I like but Mrs Mowser reckons it makes me aggressive so that's to be taken in moderation. I rarely drink water.

That is funny as that's exactly what we do with the reds.........Ahh a kilo of oxtail slowly cooked in a bottle or two of red, bliss

Mowser or anyone for that matter.....do you do vino del campo? I like it once I've got the first glass out of the way. Gets you seriously inebriated but never yet had a bad head the next day with it. All the local Spainish blokes drink it literally non stop all day, i.e 8 til late

I'm the opposite, red gives me heartburn and an incredibly dry mouth! So like DA, I stick to white, but deffo no spirits, never have been into them.

Same for me too although I can drink Barbadillo white and a few others with no problem. My Daughter cannot drink red or it gives her migraine.

We once went to a reception in manilva, they were launching their new white wine. First glass tasted vile. However, we were all talking and it was a hot day, after about 3 glasses it started to taste wonderful. We were all sloshed and had to take taxis home...felt really terrible all next day

Not if I can avoid it. I had an "experience" a good few years ago with Frigiliana wine.
It went down smoothly enough. Only later after a good few "swallies" was I told it was around 20º volume.
Any time we're given a few bottles, I wait till dia de la cruz (3rd May) and put it outside on a table for people to sample.

As for the chill bit........Mrs. reckons it's easy to do the wine but says the jury's out for the other

Katy, we do Antonio Barbadillo too, We also like Analivia as a good sub 5e white but it is hard to find, both in my mind have that Chablis sort of taste.

If you want a bit of fun (and embarrassment of some) at a gathering, get a neutral to pour a few differing glasses of wine, chilled and/or room temperature, red, rosé and white - then get folk to taste them - blindfolded - and note what they think each is.
You may be surprised at the results.

Peter, we actually do something similar every New Years Eve with a couple who come around. The chap (good bloke though) is a PITA with wines and self proclaimed expert on Port So without fail each year I google for an awsomely priced bottle and let him know in November I've just bought and decanted it, so he can swot it up. Day before New years Eve I pick a bottle of Tescos or Asda finest and chuck it in the decanter...give it a shake and bang it on the table Now he knows I wouldn't skimp on the Port so he looks forward to this every year.........as soon as the meal is finished out comes the cheeses and he get's his piece of Gorgonzola and takes a swig of the £210 errr £7.25 Port............."mmm, ahhhhh, mmmm you only get what you pay for, fantastic, sensational blah, blah blah"..........we're there peeing ourselves ........a ritual that's gone on for 15 years now

I am truly basic though with drinks..........I only like cold,sharp,white wine similar to Chablis. I don't like the peardroppy/nail varnish taste though on Chardonays yet I've since been told Chablis is made from the same grape

And beer, again only light/lagery stuff and sharp, I don't like hoppy,malty tastes either..........told you, weird

Yes, Chablis is made from the Chardonnay grape but it is a nice dry flinty wine unlike some of the Chardonnays from warmer climates.

Australian Chardonnay is much richer and full bodied and is often "oaked" by keeping it in oaked barrels for some time. That would give it an entirely different taste to Chablis.

Spanish Chardonnay is very good with a good range from the light unoaked wines to some which are heavily oaked.

There are some good ones from Navarra and Somontana (both close together just south of the Pyrenees). Try the wines from Enate - they do a really good unoaked and an even better oaked one (fermentida en barrica). Castillo de Monjardin have three very good ones and Gran Fuedo also. These are all readily available in the better supermarkets. Not cheap - all over €5 and up to €10.

It's a grape that the Spanish do really well and they stand up well to the best of the competition. That's possibly due to the fact that Chardonnay is not indigenous to Spain and has been imported in relatively recent years so it is the more modern winemakers that are specialising in it with very good results.

Next time you are over try Enate Chardonnay 234 - you will like it.
