Wine making equipment
Wine making equipment
Any ideas where I can buy wine making equipment in the Nerja to Malaga areas?
I have a vine that produces lots of red grapes.
Last year there where far too many to eat or give to neighbours.
So this year looks as if there is going to be a good crop again so I thought I would try to make some wine from the excess.
Cheers

Re: Wine making equipment
Hello Gerry,
We actually have a small group of ' Wine Makers' at our house every 4 weeks, and we try to encourage people to use locally obtained grapes and other fruits, but some also use kits for wine and beer.
It is quite a 'social' gathering, we have food and drink and even a game of 'Bingo' and a raffle, our next meeting is next week and this time we are also having a 'Blind Wine Tasting '..
And we will also be tasting wines from the Cordoba area.
Anyway if you are unable to find a supply of equipment, we can loan you some to 'have a go', we also keep a supply of all of the various yeast /enzymes etc., that you may want to use.
We would also be happy to help any other people who would like to set up a 'Wine Group'.
And before anyone asks why we want to make wine in Spain....it's a bit of fun and an excuse to have a social gathering.
There are a few suppliers of beer equipment in Granada and Malaga I think, but it´s mainly beer kits.
If anyone else knows of other suppliers in Andalucia, I would also like to know.
Regards,
Gordon

Gerryh have a look on here.

I'm also interested in wine making and maybe beer as we'll maybe benidorm could give us a few recipes and point us in the right direction as to which yeast weI would need as there seems a big selection. Gv1 to gv11. Also benidorm I was reading a book a few months back and the guy in the book was told by local brewers not to use yeast I think as the grapes have enough in them already. I may be wrong but any ideas. I've left the book in Spain so can't check. The book was about frigilliana and is a good read.

Swerve,
Sorry I completely missed your addition to this thread, probably because Gerry didn't get back with any thoughts about his wine making.
As far as not using yeast, that is true, many of the locals don't wash the grapes because there is enough natural yeast on the grape skins.
We tend to use a much more 'civilised' approach to the wine making, ensuring cleanliness etc. throughout the process, having said that I've tasted many good wines produced by the 'Campo' method.
Interesting also to note that although in our area they are mainly olive growers now, not so many years ago it was predominately Vine and Tobacco production... Two bad habits ?
And Swerve, if ever you wish to come along to one of our 'Happy' little Wine Meets' ,you will be made most welcome..
Regards,
Gordon.. Part Time Wino....

Re: Wine making equipment
Gordon have you ever tasted costa wine. We were told about it and when we had a trip upto orgiva we called into a bodega and bought a litre. It's a very strong and sort of rough and ready wine. If your ever up that way you've got to try it. Only in moderation though. And thanks for the invite I'll keep it in mind.

Re: Wine making equipment
Hi Gordon
Sorry I didn't get back with my thoughts on wine making.
Found a place in the UK that would ship wine making equipment to Spain.
Decided the cost was too high.
Thanks for your offer of the loan of equipment but the fuel costs of collecting it and returning it would also be high.
I'll just eat the grapes and buy wine from the supermarket.
On the other might try the campo method as Swerve posted.
Cheers

Re: Wine making equipment
Gerry - there was a guy earlier this year advertising on facebook. His name was Karl ??? and he was selling winemaking and beermaking equipment, including kits.
Sorry I can't remember his name but his outlet was in the small poligono just outside Casabermeja on the Colmenar road.

Hi Graham
Many thanks. Looking at his website seems more geared to beer brewing and wine making kits.
I've emailed him to see if he has any small scale wine making equipment.
Cheers
Gerry
Update
Got an email reply from Carl. He is English and has all I need for wine making at home.
When I make the wine, provided it is drinkable, then you can have a bottle.

Re: Wine making equipment
Gerry....Good Luck with your wine making and remember to try and refrain from drinking it too soon, better to leave a few months and serve chilled..in my opinion.
Graham, Thanks for the link to the supplier, very useful ....
Swerve......Hope to see you ..some time...

Gordon.

Re: Wine making equipment
Started my wine making today.
My wife and I have just spent several hours picking grapes, removing them from their stalks, washing them and crushing them.
Now got 18 litres of juice and grape must in brewing buckets ready to add the yeast tomorrow.
The specific gravity of the grape juice was 1.095, just right to produce a wine with 13% ABV.
Cheers

Re: Wine making equipment
Tried to start the yeast off yesterday.
This is what it looks like now. Does this look right?
Been in a room at about 28C.
I expected an increase in volume and looking frothy.
Cheers

Re: Wine making equipment
Hi Gerry,
Are you still making wine? I'm after some winemaking equipment and supplies but struggling to find anything (I'm in the Alpujarras) I've tried the malagabrew link but it takes me to a canine website. Any advice appreciated.

Re: Wine making equipment
Hi Carol
Welcome to the forum.
Yes I have been making wine for a few years.
I make red wine from my own grapes.
2016 was the best year, very drinkable.
Still have some of the 2018 wine but not so good.
Probably won't be making any from this years crop, bit short of time and the crop is small.
Yes you are correct the cervezamalaga website is now a canine website.
Sorry can't help with anywhere in Spain to buy winemaking equipment.
Cheers
