Xmas food
Xmas food
Are there any shops, in the Velez Malaga municipality, that sell marzipan and icing sugar for a Xmas cake and mince pies and Xmas puddings.
Usually get such at Iceland but not during current travel restrictions.
Cheers

Re: Xmas food
Not sure if Dunnes has anything Gerry. Otherwise Russell's in Torrox now has a huge stock of things and will deliver:

Re: Xmas food
My wife looked in Dunnes yesterday. They didn't have anything.
Will try Russel's delivery.

Re: Xmas food
Is there an Overseas (Iceland) store in your area? The one in Mijas has all this but I know this isn't much good unless there is one within reach of you.
Re: Xmas food
Nearest Iceland is Fuengirola/Mijas area. I find all I need in Russells these days as they've expanded and have a good choice (even got some taramasalata there the other day, and they have fresh clotted cream too for a planned batch of scones!).
Re: Xmas food
There is a shop in Compete run by Brits. They supply a lot of UK food and even deliver turkeys in the area.

Supersol? Is there still one in torre after the old one closed?
Re: Xmas food
It's now Cash Sol and doesn't sell what I want.
As Wicksey posted earlier Russels in Torrox do a delivery service and have everything we need and an order will be going in soon.
Cheers

Re: Xmas food
No such luck here. We usually pop over to the UK during this long weekend coming up. Wife has made Christmas pudding and mince pies and we found crackers on Amazon.
Re: Xmas food
I am usually in Lanzarote this week but had to cancel due to the restrictions, and they have an Iceland store close to the airport. I usually stock up with their little Xmas puds on the way home. They are trying to stop using palm oils in their products so we like their puds. The ones I can find locally all have palm oil in which I would rather avoid unless it is sustainably sourced. I've never made one myself as they seem to take hours of steaming. The shop bought ones heat in the microwave for a minute!
Re: Xmas food
I found one in my food cupboard, came in a F&M hamper. Has Courvoisier, Port and all sorts in it, matured for a year before sale. Sell by date was March this year. Wondering if I should risk it

Re: Xmas food
I would have a look at it Katy, if there's no mould on it and it smells Ok then I would give it a go. It is so fortified by booze it must be well preserved. We used to bring Xmas food with us here in the 1990s before we could easily buy it locally, and as it was only a holiday home we sometimes didn't get to eat everything. I remember having a very old Xmas pud that had sat in the house all year, and it was fine.

Re: Xmas food
!
Hi Gerry, Marzipan is very easy to make at home and much superior to the store bought stuff, you only need almonds, sugar, water and a food proceesor
loads of recipes on the internet. .
Powdered or icing sugar is even easier, just put caster sugar in a tall tubular receptical and blend it down with a stick mixer, put it through a sieve and that's it, give it a go !!

But they sell pricey mince pies in El Corte Ingles and i picked up some Lyon’s minced pies in Dealz for a Euro fifty, which opened In Bilbao last week.

Re: Xmas food
Mince pies seem to have a fairly short shelf life so you need to check the sell by date.
We always get a frozen stuffed turkey from Bofrost but we have to order and take delivery of it in early November.
