what to make with a glut of lemons?

Postby gavilan » Sat Apr 27, 2024 3:17 pm

the orange, mandarin and grapefruit trees have been a disater cos of the drought ... but the lemon tree has excelled itself ... so ...I have made lemon drizzle cake, lemon cheesecake, lemon curd, lemonade, lemon sorbet ... I know I can go on the internet to find more ideas/recipes ... but thought to come to A.com members for their thoughts ...

You have covered most of the things you can make but lemon marmalade is a good option that keeps indefinitely. Zest the peel and freeze it, I have done this with a surfeit of limes. If you have the freezer space freeze the juice.

Giving them to your friends and neighbours is the Spanish approach to spare fruit.

How about limoncello?
That's what we use our lemons for.

We have two lemon trees and two orange trees. Both give us a huge harvest. Oranges are easy . Drinks and eating mid morning walk. The lemons are much more difficult. We give them away by the shopping bag. One year we went to the UK about now and filled the redundant spare wheel well and more. They were easy to dispose of when similar lemons ( not eco) were selling for 50p each.

As Sid says give them away but if to Spanish folk expect “ more” in return. We came home and found a sack hanging from the horse hitch - a live rabbit for eating inside.

You could also just freeze the juice in ice cube trays
