Hola
My daughter is starting secondary school - IES Suel - on Monday. We went to the school yesterday to be given the list as to which class she is in. It's 1B. There are 4 classes 1A to 1E.
Does anyone know if the classes are based on academic ability like in the UK?
My daughter is convinced the classes are divided alphabetically but I know that isn't correct.
Thanks for any help
Thanks, Sharon

Re: Secondary Education / IES
Hi,
There is no type of division based on ability. Each instituto chooses its own way to divide the classes, some try to keep groups together as they were in primary schools, others are based on the few optional subjects (french / extra maths...) or in bilingual schools, in some cases the groups are divided by bilingual and non bilingual.
There is only an ability division when they get to 3º (diversificación: for youngsters with learning difficulties).
