Football

Postby dido72 » Fri May 04, 2007 4:09 pm

I don't know much about football and even less about Spanish football so where can I find out about Spanish teams/leagues etc, my hubby wants a team to follow when we come over. :D

What teams do you all support?

Depends where in Andalucia you are or how far you wish to travel. There are three teams in La Liga (top division) They are the two teams in Sevilla (Sevilla & Real Betis) and Huelva. There are quite a few teams in the second division right across the region from Cadiz to Almeria plus teams in the Murcia area. Sadly Malaga were relegated from La Liga last season and are in danger of getting relegated again this year, which is a shame as they have a large Brit following (British supporters club based in the Old Tavern in Marbella). Most towns have a team playing in the local leagues.

you can check the clubs via the league tables, La Liga for the top clubs or bbva league for the lesser clubs. Malaga ground has just been refurbished so a nice ground to go to. The football is not the best tho.

Malaga will not be relegated again this season. I have a feeling in my water. The youngsters from the youth side are coming through and it looks good for next season.

When you get here, there are a couple of newspapers we've seen which have all the results, even for the lower divisions. Marca and AS are both published every day I think (Marca certainly is), and him indoors swears by the Monday version. They will show you all the teams, then just pick one! We started to get behind Velez Malaga, but since we did, they've hardly won a match, so maybe we're bad news. Coming from Leeds, we're probably kiss of death to a team.

Annie. A very dangerous thing to say on this forum - Sevilla indeed. Prepare yourself for shedloads of adverse comments from Real Betis & Malaga supporters.

Not all clubs seem to have an online ticket buying facility but Sevilla does at
www.sevillafc.es
For "big" matches sometimes it's season ticket holders only, but the website gives you all the details. For the last Real Betis (vs Real Madrid) match I went to, we just turned up and bought on the day of the match with no problem.

That was a good point yesterday, shame they didn't hang on to their 2-0 lead though. Let's hope next season they get their act together and start pushing for promotion.

Really looking forward to the footy this weekend after last weekends results kept it wide open. I think real Madrid should do enough to hang on and win the title as a great send off for Beckham :)
