Numb Feet
Numb Feet
I am a type2 diabetic and have for some time had numb feet. Iam wondering if Scholl flight socks would be of benefit as I see they aid circulation. Has anyone has tried them with that aim in mind rather than what they were sold for.

Re: Numb Feet
Nerve damage of any sort can cause foot numbness to sufferers of Type 2. It can be caused just by a pebble or small stone in a shoe, not noticed at the time. Tell your doctor now. Also, a daily warm footwash is recommended as it assists circulation.

Re: Numb Feet
Diabetic neuropathy is a nerve disorder caused by diabetes. Over time, uncontrolled blood sugar levels can damage nerves throughout the body.
Common symptoms are numbness, burning, pain, or tingling in the feet or legs, which can lead to serious problems with infected foot sores going unnoticed. Eventually, problems with dizziness, digestion (such as diarrhea or constipation), sexual function, bladder infections, and impotence can develop. Diabetic neuropathy can also develop suddenly and cause double vision, drooping eyelids, and weakened or wasting thigh muscles.
There is no cure for diabetic neuropathy. Treatment includes consistently keeping blood sugar levels within a narrow and tightly controlled target range and taking good care of the feet to help prevent infections.
As the last posters have said.... chat to your doctor for peace of mind.

Re: Numb Feet
For anyone with diabetes, id like to recommend dr bernsteins book the "diabetes solution", im type 1 and this book has changed my life in so many levels.
I was diagnosed with neuropathy, tingling, numbness etc, since reading this week and eating low carb, i dont seem to have a problem with it anymore, and i lost 4 stone in 3 months, feel great and maintain a stable blood sugar reading between 3-7mmol, the approach towards diet advised by the BDA is all wrong, im sure it'll all change soon, caused me a lot of problems with fluctuating sugar levels.
I thought i was going to die soon, thats how bad i felt, getting more and more overweight due to high levels of insulin to control all my carbs, i take a third of the insulin i was on now, and never felt better.

I am sorry if you think I am being moral or pedantic, it was not my intention, and I realise you were trying to help but plagiarising copyrighted material can cause problems for both the forum owner and the contributor if he can be identified. Crediting the source or providing a link to the actual article is a far more acceptable manner of imparting such information.djrickyb wrote:

The very end of my left big toe goes numb from time to time. It's a wierd sensation. Should I be concerned?

Thanks djrickyb... although I don't like the sound of,
"Other medical conditions which give rise to numb toes include multiple sclerosis, peripheral vascular disease, alcoholic neuropathy, cervical spondylosis, nerve injury, leprosy, broken toe and Reynaud’s Disease."
Gulp.
