Having made our permanent move to Spain 6 weeks ago and not being employed here we need to get ourselves some private medical cover. Having carried out forum and web searches I have come up with several companies which provide coverage but am none the wiser as to which would work for us. Excepting for BUPA international who have just quoted over 4,000 euros pa for the two of us. Which seems incredibly expensive to me, although it is the most comprehensive plan probably far in excess of our needs.
There is myself and my wife, both in 50s, fit and healthy with no pre-existing conditions. We live between Sayalonga and Competa and so would need facilities in this area.
I've seen various threads praising and condemning Sanitas and Prevision Medica but how do they compare price/facilities.
Also when meeting our gestor she mentioned medical insurance from Allianz. Never seen them mentioned on the forum does anybody have any experience of their service?
Which private medical plan?

Re: Which private medical plan?
Where you live, Prevision Medica will probably be the cheapest.
This has been discussed in some detail on this forum in the past.
Do a search for Prevision Medica. You will find a number of threads.

Re: Which private medical plan?
We just researched medical plans. we look at DKV. Sanitas and Provision Medica. Make sure you read the conditions. Pro med was the cheapest but the cover was rubish. Something like only 10 days cover in intensive care and also limits on time in hospital. We decided to go for the Classic Plan with Sanitas, the conditions are much better and there don't seem to be limits on the time if admitted to hospital. They are more expensive though. You only get what you pay for.

Sanitas allow you to use Clinica Rincon. You should be able to find one of these not far from you.
They also cover preventative checks, ie mammograms etc which some companies don't.

We use Mapfre, have regular diabetis checks with them, I was diagnosed after we ´joined up´ Had mamogram and regular eye tests too at a clinic in Sevilla. With Mapfre we get preventative treatment ie mamograms etc. Not sure hubby needs a mammogram though
Re: Which private medical plan?
No complaints here about Prevision Medica. We had Sanitas and dumped them after a year- totally hopeless. Read the small print about waiting time. Some tests won't be done till you're with them for three months.
We got a deal last year with Prevision Medica as they were celebrating their internet anniversary. We got full cover last August for the two of us for a total of €80 a month. In January it went up to €84 a month. As the policy is up for renewal I phoned to ask the price from the beginning of August. They said it was fixed at €84 but would go up in January.
This is half the price of quotes we got from other companies (Case, Mapfre etc).

Re: Which private medical plan?
We have been with Sanitas (Sanitas Multi) for about fifteen years and have never had a problem of any sort despite some fairly heavy claims the main one being for an operation which my wife had to have for 'women's problems' and regular six-monthly check-ups.
We don't even know what anything costs as all claims are settled directly between Sanitas and the hospital/specialist concerned. There are certainly cheaper options but I would never consider changing insurers just to save a few euros.

Let's go Brandon!

Beachcomber.
I changed to Prevision Medica - NOT to save a few euros - but because of a particularly bad experience I had 18 months ago. They refused to come out for a medical emergency. It's still with the Defensor del Pueblo.
Each to his own I suppose. I have friends who swear by Sanitas. I just swear AT them.
