Dental Work

Postby telboy » Wed Oct 16, 2013 3:55 pm

Had a crown fitted over 30 odd years ago after root canal work, a porcelain tooth was mounted on a gold pin and glued into my jawbone. Due to a gum/abscess infection this has worked loose and now needs replacing with and implant, bridge or denture. :problem:

Got a quote for 1100€ all-in for an single implant(incisor) at my regular a local Spanish dentist in Rute up near Lucena.

Is this a good price, or should I venture down to the coast and shop around :?:

How much would I expect to pay for a single denture :?:

Well, it's better than the £2,000 I paid for an implant in the UK some years back.
Be careful though. Apparently there can be many complications with fitting implants as most dentists don't get to do that many (and it does count as real-life surgery and needs a sterile environment) and so may not be very experienced and unable to spot tricky situations.

€1100 for an implant is about right plus the cost of the crown which could be another €500. A single denture is probably going to be around €450.

I am sure you will find cheaper options but that seems to be the rate from a "normal" dentist.

Those figures are based on a recent consultation about much the same problem.

one of the options presented to me was €1000 for an implant a couple of years ago so it seems about right.
i ended up having crown as dentist advised this something to do with having to wait a year because i had a recent infection, crown cost something over €200 each

I paid 1,500 euros for an implant 5-6 year ago. I believe the price has dropped a little since then so your quote seems about right.

I'm having 2 implants at our local dentist at the moment. 2100€ for the two.

I had an amusing quote from a specialist in Cambridge when I was over there earlier in the year. He recommended 5 implants for just over £20,000!!! I wasn't surprised as I had noticed their staff car park contained three Porche 911s :lolno:

You can get them cheap in the UK too. However, having experienced the dentist from hell price is the least consideration. A German friend had a lot of implants and suffered pain for ages. They eventually all had to come out. Severe infection had eaten into his jawbone

As a result of the implants or an untreated infection existing before the implants?

When I see these Ferrari prices it makes me realise why all our local Spaniards have such bad teeth. Ridiculous and unjustifiable in my view.

In Spain 1,100 euros is not cheap. It's the going rate. In the UK that would be less than the going rate.
I had mine done a few years back and have had no problems. I certainly would much rather pay the so called Ferrari price than have a gap in my front teeth

Not at all. Depending on how long you live, it works out at less than €1 per week.

For ONE f%$*&^! TOOTH !!!
A top barrister would only charge £200 per hour, so how many hours would this dental wonder work take?

More.
It took six months in all. Quite a few appointments, not forgetting the materials.
Obviously, I would have preferred to have spent the money on something else but much better a false tooth than a gap in my front teeth.

In the end it's down to choice.

Good to hear other posters experiences and advice

Just come back from the dentist after the removal of the root of my original crown(30€). Asked for a breakdown of the quote for a single implant which now is 1250€ TOTAL

Surgery - 500€, which is performed at the dental practice under local anaesthetic, and for all aspects of the work. The whole procedure will be around 4months.
Materials - 600€ which includes Titanium screw and crown and whatever else they use etc.
Denture - 150€ which in fact is what they make and fit as a temporary replacement during the implant procedure.

I forgot to mention that a bridge would cost 750€ - Don't fancy this, they butchers two perfectly healthy teeth to attach the wire support for the replacement tooth. :wtf:

If I'm happy with the denture I may just stick with that at 150€. I'd rather have a denture plus a new MaccBook Pro and still have some change than an implant.

Cheers - terry

The temporary denture that I was provided with was awful. It looked OK, just, it felt horrible and it broke after 2 months. By that time I wasn't wearing it much so I discarded it and had a gappy smile for the rest of the time.

I went for the impression last evening so I should have the two new implants fitted next week.
