Vuelta in Torre del Mar on Monday - route and times?
Vuelta in Torre del Mar on Monday - route and times?
Hi,
I just found out the Vuelta comes through Torre del Mar on Monday.
Does anyone know where I can find the exact times for the route etc?
I have to get into Velez-Malaga for the doctors at 9:15am and part of the A356 is on the route. Just wondering if I'll have to use the back routes and allow more time etc.
Thanks
John

We watched it last year at Benajarafe. It came through at about 13.00 heading towards Torre del Mar

4pm Los Ventorros. We hope to make a party of it. All welcome.
Re: Vuelta in Torre del Mar on Monday - route and times?
Funny .... I checked the route a few weeks back and didn't realise it came this way. We watched it last year at El Ingenio.
Looks like it's due in Torre del Mar around 4:30 to 5pm. Unlike the Tour de France where they close the roads hours in advance for the caravan ahead of the cyclists, here they do a very good 'rolling' programme of road closures so they don't hold up the traffic for very long.

Re: Vuelta in Torre del Mar on Monday - route and times?
Last year the road was closed around 30 minutes before the leaders came through.
Re: Vuelta in Torre del Mar on Monday - route and times?
In France they close it for about 3 hours before it comes through!
I am finding it difficult to get a more detailed map of the route. Last year I was able to see exactly the roads they were using through Velez/Torre del Mar so could choose a place to watch it, but this year I can't seem to do that.
Even downloading and enlarging the map it isn't clear as the red line of the route is so large, but it looks like it may go through Velez and down the road past Lidl and McDonalds this time (A335A according to Googlemaps) so possibly the Dunnes side of El Ingenio?

Hi Wicksey,
Looking at the Time Table gives the streets and road numbers so you could follow it through on Google Maps or viamichelin Maps as they give street names too.

NB:
Beware that they maybe faster than the scheduled times as they were in the Tour de France on may days

More details of the route and timings are available on the Ayuntamiento de Velez-Malaga website:-

Re: Vuelta in Torre del Mar on Monday - route and times?
Thanks a lot ... that does confirm they are using Av Juan Carlos 1 which is the Dunnes side of El Ingenio.
Re: Vuelta in Torre del Mar on Monday - route and times?
Quite impressed by the way they handled the road closures in Torre del Mar.
There were one or two stewards at each road junction with a length of police tape attached to a post on one side of the junction or barriers if no suitable posts available. As the "close the road" police motorcyclist passed them they unrolled the tape and attached it to the post on the other side of the road or moved the barriers.
All this done about 30 mins before the support cars and cyclists arrived.
Cheers
Gerry

Re: Vuelta in Torre del Mar on Monday - route and times?
Great watching them go through our village. The only disappointment was that the advertising vehicles also went through fast about an hour before the riders. They were throwing out all sorts of goodies out and some of the vehicles were beautifully done up; but we didn't have time to admire them. Good party atmosphere though. I didn't realise that the Guardia had so many motorcycles.
Re: Vuelta in Torre del Mar on Monday - route and times?
The 'caravan' didn't go past us standing near to Dunnes. It seems that they only gave out the freebies in more populated areas. We did catch a drinks bottle thrown by one of the cyclists though.
I think they handle it very well here as I said above. The Guardia must love getting the job of policing the race as the motorcyclists were roaring past, all lights flashing on empty roads long before the race came through, then the big 4x4s passed with all the Guardia waving out the windows to the crowds
Watching it on Spanish TV later I was surprised that they went onto the A7 around Malaga and they had shut the motorway. Must have created a bit of a tailback if you had been on your way to the airport.

Not much of a tailback Wicksy, They travel at 50KPH.

Re: Vuelta in Torre del Mar on Monday - route and times?
I was worried that they did not close both sides of the autovia in places. Given that the average Spanish driver has the ability of the average toddler to concentrate on their driving, I feared a few instances of "oh look at that lot Paco" at 120kph!

Re: Vuelta in Torre del Mar on Monday - route and times?
Yes we saw some near misses on the other carriageway where we were standing opposite El Ingenio. Cars just did an emergency stop in the middle of the road. Earlier on before the race came through they were just stopping in the left hand lane and asking us lot all standing in the central reservation area "que pasa?"
Re: Vuelta in Torre del Mar on Monday - route and times?
Not been without it's moments did anyone see the massive pile up at Camino del Rey and the guy with cig in mouth trying to take the American riders bike? He looked like the typical village layabout the rider did "lose" his garmin. then the start in Banus with all the tweets about ridiculous surfaces. I like watching for the scenery the same as other tours but I find the logic of it all baffling. Be interesting to see the Torrevieja stretch, will it go miles around those apartment blocks

Will they be able to breathe with the stench of the salty lakes and flamingo poo (and the John Smith's Bitter fumes from the tatooed expats!)katy wrote: Be interesting to see the Torrevieja stretch
