Private Clinic for Cataract Op.

Postby country boy » Sun Dec 01, 2019 12:55 pm

I need a cataract removed and wondered if anyone has any experience of Private Clinics for this on the coast or inland?

My dad had his done in malaga city - behind corte ingles theres a clinica baveria - it was €1500 per eye, but there are no garentees. My dads eyesight was restored 100% but only lasted maybe 1 year and now he has trouble reading the writing on youtube on the 32" tv from 2 metres away.

The idea of having a spanish doctor coming towards me with a scalpel while i was awake would be enough to put me off !!
Alhaurin el Grande since 99, working at the airport since 2011.

My wife had a cataract removed in Nov 2017, cost about €2000, at Vithas Salud, was Clinica Rincon then, by Dr. espejo De Loss Riscos, in Rincon de la Victoria.
He speaks good English if that matters.
Absolutely no problem with the operation and no problems since.
Cheers

Well thanks Guys, useful stuff. I have to say the thought of someone slamming a door or a sonic boom at the dreaded moment, do leave me a bit apprehensive....but....my world is a bit cloudy at the moment so we'll see ( excuse the pun!).

Has your dad had his eye checked for detached retina? I had a cataract removed and six months later my retina detached completely. It was only reattached some two weeks later due to me being in mallorca at the time, my wife arriving in several days and it was a few days to christmas. I was operated on between boxing day and new years eve. After 4 operations I still do not have any real sight in that eye. But maybe your dad's eyesight is recoverable?? Graham

As a cataract is a permanent, and I believe, irreversible cloudiness of the lens I would be very surprised if acupuncture could improve it.
The only way, I believe, is to replace the lens.

I would agree that if cataracts have reached the stage of causing cloudiness then acupuncture may be too late but methinks it worth trying when in early stages ...

Are you asking about a cataract operation or acupuncture?
My wife had a cataract operation on one eye on the Spanish NHS.
They wouldn't do the second eye as her vision, using spectacles, was above 40% in that eye.
She got fed up with the blurry vision in the affected eye so I paid for it to be done privately.
Now good good vision in both eyes.
