That is a Jet2 operational decision not a Spanish decision it seems from a member of their cabin staff.

Apparently there were five flights turned around mid-journey. Their press statement says that as everything will be shut it will affect their customer's enjoyment of their holiday so for that reason and health and safety they decided to cancel all flights, even those on their way it seems!

Obviously don't want in two weeks time to be lumbered with 5 plane loads of holiday makers stranded in Spain that may need rescuing/accom paid for indefinitely if Spanish airspace is closed

Correct it was a Jet2 decision. Perhaps I should have made that clear in my post.

According to Twitter posts there are many stranded anyway who were due to return to UK on these flights. TUI have also cancelled many flights.

Spanish gov have acted too late, they should have had a total lock down in the Madrid area earlier instead of just advising people to stay home which resulted in many running off to other areas of Spain ie the costa's. The gov should of known that people hysteria would result in travel and the virus spreading.
Not only will this be devastating for those who are the most vulnerable but it looks like it will be one of the biggest economic disasters to go down in history.

He had to of course, as there is now a nationwide state of emergency.
A decision is yet to be made re possibly closing Spanish airspace.

It appears, if there is a lockdown might start on Monday but that going out to buy food and medicines will be allowed.
Visiting a health centre will be allowed.
Essential travel will be allowed in connection with your work.
All shops, except for food and medicine shops will be closed along with bars, cafes, and restaurants.
I haven't seen any mention of vets or animal food shops.
Our dog needs regular medication and his next lot won't arrive at the pet store until next week.

Pretty sure needs like that are covered by the last condition on their list. Words to effect that “any justified need” is ok.

Our neighbours sister and her husband arrived from Getafe on Thursday. We have a gate at the end of our garden that goes into their garden, it is now padlocked as we don't want sister wandering through our garden. Told them to stay away for at least 2 weeks.
This morning their cousin arrived to their house ( I was down the garden feeding the hens, I made a quick exit ) lots of kissing was going on, what part of keep away don't they understand?
Local Venta bar is shut and so is the small chiringuito.
We have an appointment for the vet on Monday to get dogs stitches out.
Our front gate is locked too during the day.
Stay clear of germs folks.

for what it's worth ... son was due to fly out from Gatiwck to Malaga late this afternoon ... long delay ..part due to Captain negotiating permission to land in Mlga ... but no probs on flite (BA2417) landed late as predicted ... son through in 15 mins ... no special health/safety checks ... the airport quiet for a saturday night but reasonable amount of people around ... and only a small minority wearing masks ... and interesting to note (as far as I could see but may have missed it due to being very tired) ... el pais no mention of airport closures ... maybe that will come and son will be stuck here for 2 weeks or more?! ... vamos a ver ...

When does the ban actually start?
The original proposal was to start at 8:00 AM tomorrow, Monday.
So are bars, cafes and restaurants shut today?
Cheers
