I wouldnt be booking anything until the goverment changes its view and advice that there should only be essential travel.. i very much doubt your travel insurance would cover you for anything if you go overseas or book a flight while the goverment has such a warning in place.

Some good news though.
Let's hope it's not another false dawn.

Good news indeed, just watched the Scientist on the Daily briefing and he was very upbeat and positive and interestingly said they'd stopped looking at hydroxychloroquine as it had no positve effects at all, in fact had quite the opposite

"The Recovery Trial, running since March, also looked at the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine, which has subsequently been ditched amid concerns it increases fatalities and heart problems.

I don't want to go off-topic too much but the British couple who got special permission to go to New Zealand and stopped to meet 'close friends' have managed to clock up 320 contacts the government is now trying to trace. 320? People really are bonkers.

From The Guardian:

Just to recap what happened in New Zealand:

Yesterday, New Zealand cancelled exemptions from quarantine for compassionate reasons, after two women who had flown in to see a dying relative tested positive after they had been released on compassionate grounds.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said the release of the two women, despite them not being tested, was an ‘unacceptable failure of the system’.
The government has so far identified 320 close contacts of the two women.
The issue of the two women not being tested had nothing to do with a lack of resources, she said.
She will not be replacing Minister of Health David Clark.
She has, however, called in the military to oversee the quarantine and isolation process, under the leadership of Assistant Chief of Defense Air Commodore Digby Webb.

I have had a letter today from NHS inviting me to take part in a Covid-19 antibody research study. Says you will be contributing to important scientific research carried out by NHS and Imperial College Oxford..does say at the end that antibody tests are not 100% accurate but I may as well take part.

Re dentist as was mentioned abit further back in the thread. A family member in the uk has just been quoted a further £125 "covid cleaning" charge ontop of the price of treatment. Thanks but no thanks. Is this even allowed? Talking about trying to cash in because they can only see half of their daily amount of patients. One of the many things about the uk i hate. Everyone seems to be on the make. Then again i see my dentist here next month!!

My dental check up is free here and I usually pay 40€ for a clean. I am overdue my appointment as it was due in March so I'll find out in due course how much it is. 125 pounds extra sounds rip off to me.

I did see an article somewhere where a Tenerife bar had charged a COVID surcharge, and this is apparently illegal, in Spain anyway. My hairdresser hasn't raised her prices and she has extra expenses now.

I dare say most businesses will want to pass on or recover their incurred costs. I guess that is business. Some will try it on in the early days. I am desperate to get my dad to the dentist for quite a complicated procedure (in the UK). They are only doing extractions which is a step forward as emergency extractions were done at a hub for the whole area.

Got two other quotes. One dentist charged either an extra fiver or tenner depending on the work for covid and the other had no extra charges. So the one charging £125 is obviously a cowboy trying to cash in.

Prices arent regulated so they can charge whatever they like.

My dentist phoned me last week to reschedule my cancelled appointment. I'm not expecting to have to pay any more than usual.

My wife cracked a tooth during the period of house arrest. She went to our dentist a couple of weeks ago. All done efficiently and quickly with no extra charge.

   I hope my doctor is male, tall, dark and handsome.

I've just booked a flight with EasyJet from Madrid to Bristol for 20th July. My reasoning is that by then, things should either be 'normal' or they will never be 'normal' again. It's been a fine exercise is controlling the masses and the controllers will have learned a lot over the last four months. However, I'm bored now and I don't want to play any more.

Although in all honesty the restrictions for travellers from Spain will probably have l been lifted by then, if they aren't you will need to quarantine for 14 days

No problems. I live in the middle of nowhere and only see other people by making a concentrated effort.
