Re: Coronavirus
The point is that some people are making millions and that it's a good way to say the virus has been conquered and we can all get back to 'normal' eventually BUT first, everyone has to be vaccinated and join in or the game is off.

I wonder if people will change their mind again now that the data has been published

Re: Coronavirus
I doubt it. When you are so far down the rabbit holes no amount of logic or facts and figures will change any one's opinion.
This is the headline
Spain records 493,000 deaths in 2020, the highest number since the Civil War.

OK let's look at this...deaths in Spain
2019....................... 418,703
2018...................... 427,721
2017...................... 424,523
2016..................... 410,611
To me it would seem extra are Covid?
¿Entonces?
I believe population in during/after Civil War Spain was circa 25 million.

Re: Coronavirus
I seem to remember to posts using preliminary data saying that only about 400k had died and it was no different from a normal year. Despite the data itself stating it was incomplete. Now we have the real figure and it is above 490k and shows that the increase in death rate started before any lockdown.
I wonder what could have caused the increase in the death rate before testing or lockdown started?
Re: Coronavirus
I consider the number of deaths to be very low and nothing much to get excited about.
These numbers are a bit like house price increases/decreases. Adjudicated on a yearly basis is pointless and the full story can only be collated on a minimum 10 year basis. Up today, down tomorrow. For instance, deaths for 2022 will be considerably lower than normal as this virus killed off the weak in 2020 and 2021.
In anycase, any piece of data can be presented positively or negatively, dependent on what spin you're peddling. People need to ignore the "information" and learn to make decisions for themselves. For instance, I already decided last year that this debacle will continue until 2025. So, I just get on with life.

Re: Coronavirus
You consider an 18% increase in the number of deaths to be low?
Ignoring information is a dangerous path. What you need to do is ignore the people who have no clue about statistics and information. Especially those who when proven wrong then say the data is suspect.

Re: Coronavirus
I will be interested to see the excess deaths figures for the coming years. Hopefully by then deaths due to Covid will be low ( barring any new variant flare ups) but I suspect the excess will still be higher than normal. Poor lockdown diet and lack of exercise. Deaths from illnesses not diagnosed and or treated. The excess may well continue high for some years.

Re: Coronavirus
I don't know why people say they couldn't exercise during lockdown. Although here for a few weeks in March/April 2020 you weren't supposed to go out, we've been able to walk every day. The same in the UK, people were allowed out for exercise. Walking is free and can be done anywhere so there's no excuse for not doing anything.olive wrote: ↑Sun Jun 20, 2021 11:36 am I will be interested to see the excess deaths figures for the coming years. I agree that the big problem will be those that have been abandoned by the NHS and not had specialist appointments or treatments. I know it's been so difficult to even see a doctor face to face, so things will have been missed.
Re: Coronavirus
Not just the NHS is it, same in most countries in the world.

Re: Coronavirus
Matt Hancock demonstrating social distancing this morning is going to encourage more people to fall into the government line, don’t we think?

Re: Coronavirus
Agree about exercise being free and easy. My observation is when people have got more tv on demand ( netflix, amazon etc) plus weekly shop delivered and the boom in home delivered takeaways not much time left for exercise!
Re: Coronavirus
Hancock apologies for not keeping socially distanced but doesnt apologise for the affair!
Im amazed they have the time seeing as they are working sooo hard! I bet cummins is sat in a corner chuckling to himself right now

Re: Coronavirus
During the main lockdown last year I used to go down into the garage after 12:00 at night and walk for an hour. My phone showed I had done on average around 5-6 kMs. Another little exercise we did was to walk up and down the stairs in the house.

Re: Coronavirus
Out and about this morning, I’m a little surprised that nearly everyone is still wearing a mask. Probably, it will take a little bit of getting used to not having to wear one.
