Shingles

Postby poppy1 » Sat Jan 09, 2021 12:18 pm

Anyone know the Spanish for shingles? Google comes up with a few alternatives. It's just the everyday word for it I want not the foreign sounding medical term!

Thanks.
I suspect I have it, I've had it before and have the same symptoms. It was about 12 years ago and I can remember how awful it was....the worst I'd ever felt and it lasted ages.

There few drugs apart from painkillers, but if you take Aciclovir within 5 days of it starting that will minimise the symptoms.

I had it a few years ago. Caught it early and just a small rash on midriff. Doctor gave me an injection and was ok after a few days. Since then I was given the herpes jab.

Like most rural villages, ours has what I would call loosely a “ herbalist”. She was adamant that she could cure my other half’s shingles which affected her face and an eye. Neighbours were similarly adamant cure works. Apparently she empties gunpowder from a shell and flicks it on the affected area using a feather.

Good luck with your visit to the doctor. Hope you get sorted. As Sid says , it is horrible.

As I said, the anti- viral drug has to be taken within 5 days of the shingles appearing, so get to the doctor ASAP. Where is the rash? If it’s anywhere near the face/head it will be much worse.

It's around my midriff, which was where I had it before.... no pain yet. If I cant get to see the doc on Monday I will buy the recommended drug. This has happened 4 days after having a flu and a pneumonia jab...just wondering!!

If you get the drug follow the instructions very carefully as it is very important. Herpes lives with you all the time and sometimes flares up. Cold sores are a good example. It’s usually when your immune system is a bit low. I can’t comment on the vaccines. I had it around my face but not affecting my eyes which can be serious. It was like a combination of severe toothache and earache at the same time. Lasted about 4 weeks and another 2 weeks until it went away.

There is a vaccine for it but I couldn’t find anyone who new anything about it. I understand that it is now easier to find it.

Details of vaccine. The GP will give it if you have had shingles previously or for people with cancer etc. It is worth getting privately if not.
