Hey, what's wrong with Covid Sid - snappy little name for a virus.

Incidentally, when the virus arrived, I named it WuFlu

I'm surprised no one else worked came up with that!

Sid

Just had a look at the list again. Covid Sid is there but a long way down alphabetically.

There is a Covid Firsttango, covid elusive( bet that will be tricky to treat), Covid Lavanda

Love WuFlu as a name. I wonder if the current WHO team in China will discover the true origin of CV19 or come away mystified ?

I would think there will be lots of people who have been given the nick name of covid ? Our neighbour is now known as Covid Doc. His surname is Docherty and he gets Doc for short anyway. He has become well know around the village as a Covid denier in the best possible way.

I don't know whether it is just to do with vaccine availability or people resources but it has come to my attention that the clinic where the vaccinations are taking part in my area operates once a week on a Friday. The vaccination program would have been done and dusted by now had it been done over a 5 day a week.

Reuters reported yesterday that the WHO are expected to give the green light to Astra Zeneca for all ages. Also they will endorse the practice of delaying the 2nd dose from 3 to 12 weeks. Also said that take up of the Sputnik vax in Russia is very low as they are suspicious of the government. Perhaps why they are flogging it elsewhere.

News from Hackney, London is that the vaccination centre had to close on 2 days at 3pm due to lack of punters. Citing large number of ethnic minorities in that area. i think it maybe a fairly youngish population and they can't be bothered. I can see a lot of the large centres closing down in a couple of weeks.

Big U turn on AZ now, a bit late. The EU seemed to have put a lot of faith in CUREVAC A German Company and According to TV their vaccine is still under development. According to this not ready until summer. Neither is the French Pharma company Sanofi one. Suppose if they had been ready they would have continued rubbishing AZ.

FRANKFURT (Reuters) - German biotech firm CureVac has enlisted Swiss pharma giant Novartis to help with the production of its experimental COVID-19 vaccine.

Novartis plans to manufacture the mRNA molecules that the two-shot vaccine is based on as well as “bulk drug product” for up to 50 million doses by the end of 2021 and up to a further 200 million doses in 2022, the two companies said in statements on Thursday.

Delivery from the manufacturing site in Kundl, Austria, is expected to start in summer 2021, they added.

The EU is refusing to allow export of AZ to Australia and says no AZ has left the Eurozone since January. Bit like children having tantrums when they don't want something but don't want anyone else to have it

If only the EU had more powers, they could invoke something like the Defense Production Act in the USA

Then they could force more production and stop all exports. Instead of having to enforce a contract that the manufacturer signed giving the EU rights over all production in the EU (including the UK) as the manufacturer tried to wriggle out of it. It is very strange as to why the manufacturer is so short sighted and forgotten that the EU is 2nd largest economy in the world.

Ah, the Daily Mail, that very bastion of veracity, has obviously no agenda to punt re the EU.

Amazing they have any room after their dozens of hate articles about Meghan and their vicious nasty venom-filled little coterie of what passes for journalists these days voicing their mean-spirited little opinions, often peddled as fact, often not even having a passing nodding acquaintance with it.

Seems to be what is accepted as 'news' these days over there in England.
