Vaccine war with EU
Vaccine war with EU
What are your thought people? I think if the boot was on the other foot and the EU had millions of jabs and the UK had none they would say to us “ tough luck, you chose to leave. You should have stayed in the club” .
They now want to punish the UK and Pfizer when their dispute is with AZ.

Re: Vaccine war with EU
The issues seems to be that although the contract states “best efforts” it also says that the source of vaccine wil be from all their plants, including the UK
Once the UK have met their mid February target I can see them agreeing to giving some to the EU. Meanwhile, if the EU have any sense ( we live in hope) they will buy a shed load from China like the rest of the world is doing.

Re: Vaccine war with EU
Is this the relevant part?
Section 5.4 Manufacturing Sites AstraZeneca shall use its Best Reasonable Efforts to manufacture the Vaccine at manufacturing sites located within the EU (which, for the purposes of this Section 5.4 only shall include the United Kingdom) and may manufacture the Vaccine in non-EU facilities, if appropriate, to accelerate supply of the Vaccine in Europe...
Two questions.
1. Did the EU ask the UK if they minded being part of the EU?
2. Which court(s) are going to oversee the legal proceedings? Didn’t take long did it!
Good news is the arrival of yet more vaccines. China also seems unsurprisingly to have an abundance.
PS the EU have now instigated a hard border between Ireland and Northern Ireland. You could not make it up.

Stormont furious.
Re: Vaccine war with EU
Apparently it is the 1st time ever that the South and the North of Ireland and the UK have all agreed on something. Now the EU have had to backdown.
Re: Vaccine war with EU
Apparently the export ban could affect 100 other countries according to the Telegraph. Probably won't though as it is the UK they want to get at. The World health organisation has condemned it. Virus or not the border issue is not going to go away. Moderna is now reducing it's supply to Europe too.
Legal proceedings can be taken to the WTO. Virus may have gone by then, they move more slower than Brussels.
The irony is that the UK was mocked when it passed the AZ jab but EU then went on to pass it weeks later. The row started before they had even passed it and whilst accusing UK of getting the lions share France and Germany are intent on smearing it.

I am following the story but have no views other than incredulity at the way people, who run the world, actually behave.
Re: Vaccine war with EU
The EU have a massive dose of egg on their faces. Even Tony Blair who is about as pro EU as anyone is calling them and saying this was a massive mistake.

Re: Vaccine war with EU
Ursula von der Leyen is under huge pressure. Do Presidents of the European Commission ever admit they are wrong? Or resign?
Re: Vaccine war with EU
Same process for resignation as Putin?
Re: Vaccine war with EU
No one in the world in top positions resign these days. The few that do go quiet for a few months and resurface in another top job. The useless seem to pop up in Brussels, Blair was hoping for Presidency but the Iraqi mess was too great. Das Bild reports that Ursula was incompetent at the Ministry of Defence. If they have "learnt their lessons" it's ok. The come back kids.
Re: Vaccine war with EU
The EU put their order in 3 months after the UK, so there should be some element of first come, first served. The EU countries have not got a good record of giving the jab and are way behind the UK so they're just looking for excuses now. Shows the EU bullying tactics at their best!
Re: Vaccine war with EU
Von Liar has been incompetent in all previous jobs, caught out again. Boris has been a ditherer in the past but definitely got the jab process correct.

She managed seven children in twelve years all right but agree that Boris seems to be finding his feet, at last.
Re: Vaccine war with EU
Yes ,a slight improvement in Boris's performance since he dumped his previous 'advisor', however I'm still concerned that the rush to jab everyone could be motivated by 'points scoring' rather than concern for people's health ?

Is it though? Local gp surgery said this morning that they have had no notification about administering the vaccine.i'd have thought the oxford one would be no problem.

Re: Vaccine war with EU
And at what cost. A friend in the UK has to wait twelve weeks for the second experimental shot and was told that she will be protected (from what?) 21 days from the first one. This is patently not true. They are also intending to mix and match vaccines (if, indeed, they are vaccines rather than experimental gene therapy) a situation on which no tests whatsoever have been carried out.

Not just the trying to grab the UK allocation, some other countries have complained as it will affect them too. Agree about the boot being on the other foot. I imagine a lot of those Bureaucrats in brussels are praying for the UK to fail.costakid wrote: ↑Fri Jan 29, 2021 5:50 pm What are your thought people? Just been reading on Twitter a look back at some Tweets (mainly from UK Politicians) when they heard the UK refused to participate with the EU joint purchase. Only saw one have the grace to delete it and apologise.
Munira Wilson MP Nov 16 2020
Fantastic news. Shame we weren't part of the EU vaccine prog, or we would have had early access to the Moderna vaccine as well as the Pfizer one. I daresay Moderna's negotiating position just got a lot stronger.
Ed Davy MP
The PM must confirm that the UK will take part in the EU vaccination plan. This is no time for silly Brexit games.
Many more. Funniest from SKY breaking news Nov 16 2020. Says A US developed vaccine has been shown to be effective....The UK has yet to secure access. Little did they know.
