I'm happy with the title Boris suggested in Parliament in his excellent speech.
"Elizabeth the Great", which she truly was.
RIP Elizabeth the Great.

I think the thing that has struck home to me is that she was a constant in our lives. As Governments come and go she has been Queen for the majority of people's entire lives (and I don't intend that to be the start of a political debate). For my Fil, King Charles III will be the fifth monarch he's lived with, if you can count Edward VIII.

That's quite a record Wicksey.

I think 'Elizabeth the Great' is very apt. For my entire life, Charles has been the heir to the throne and to see him move so smoothly into his new role is no huge surprise. I feel the thing the Monarchy gives the country is the sense of continuity, security and stability. I also think that it is evident in emotional terms rather than practical but I think that is what the modern British Monarchy is all about.

There is a lovely comment on a report in the Daily Telegraph:
When anyone outside the UK spoke of The Queen nobody ever asked 'Which one?'

I see that Andalucia had a day of mourning from midday yesterday to today. Even Putin had kind words to say which I was surprised at.

Everyones a "Royalist" this weekend. Black armbands instead of masks? Every one who dies becomes a Saint in the media for a while.

I am going into the City today on business. I thought I would walk from Green park station to Buckingham palace so see the flowers etc. Usually takes under 10 minutes but news report is saying its taking 5 hours as you snake through the park. I will give that a miss I think.

My mother and i travelled down to London to watch Dianas funeral, the flowers everywhere were amazing, so glad we had gone. I can imagine what it must be like in London at this moment in time. I recall it was very easy to get from Buckingham palace and St James palace to Kensington where all the flowers had been placed. Shame it would take you that length of time to see them costakid.

It is a once-in-a-lifetime event. What's a few hours? However, not everyone can go and not everyone can spare the time.
Even if I still lived in London I would not go. My claustrophobia is really bad in crowds.

I was working in Kensington Church Street about a 2-minute walk from Kensington palace. I actually lived on Kensington High street for about 3 years opposite what was Barkers and Habitat.

Most of the crowds tended to concentrate in front of the palace so most places were quite normal. What I remember was a steady stream of people with flowers walking through the little pathway that connected Kensington Church Street with Kinsington palace Gardens at the old Kensington barracks.

I met her on more than one occasion, once with my mother who was absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to have a chat with her. She always had time to talk with people. But that was in the late 80s and early to mid 90s because in the last few years all the trips to places like MacDonalds stopped because she was being hounded by the press.

The last time I saw her she was being chased by Paparazzi and she kept trying to hide in shop doorways. On the day of the actual funeral, I flew to Bilbao to collect my son from his grandmother's.

I think it's obvious Mark was talking about Diana, the give away is "On the day of the actual funeral" Def not the Queen.
