For fans of the Menu del Dia

Postby peteroldracer » Mon Aug 09, 2010 11:21 am

It is not Tony Dali's, but anyone wanting a good value menu in the Velez/Torre area could do worse than try the Zorba the Greek restaurant upstairs in El Ingenio. 4.75€ for 2 courses at early lunchtime, good selection, all we had was very tasty, reasonable price for drinks, and that great rarity - excellent service!
There was some work being done by builders/plumbers in the kitchen whilst we were there, and the boss realised that it was a bit noisy even outside on the patio area so closed the doors to cut out the racket, despite this making life a little awkward for him and the waiters bringing food out etc.
Anyone who has lived in Spain will appreciate that it is sadly rare for a Spaniard to empathise with customers, and do anything to improve their customer experience!
Edit: I nearly forgot - we didn't have to wait for the bill!

Very funny mowser! Is it just me that gets more and more cross at the refusal of anybody in a restaurant to catch my eye and acknowlege that I want the bill? This seems to happen even when the rest of the service has been exemplary and drives me mad!

Peter. If you walk towards the door, that'll get their attention. My mother is of the same mind. When she's in Spain she walks to the bar and says, "La cuenta ... adios."

Funny, my mother-in-law does the same.

I found a good one a few weeks back.

Hotel Playamaro in Maro.

We got a nice menu del dia of half a roast chicken, side salad of asparagus, sweetcorn lettuce, and a portion of hand-cut potatoe fries....all for €6.50

Good service, clean premises...worth a try.
putting the "ANDA" into Andalucía..:)

El Bichito in Alhaurin el Grande takes some beating for Menu del Dia. A great selection, the starter is like a main meal on it's own and a half bottle of wine per person all for just €6
