Monographic course 'In search of Paradise. A History of idyllic Landscape'

In conjunction with the temporary exhibition Paradises and Landscapes in the Carmen Thyssen Collection. From Brueghel to Gauguin, which presents a survey of landscape painting from the 17th to the mid-19th centuries through major works in the Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection, the Museum has organised a monographic course with the aim of achieving an in-depth focus on the depiction of nature, frequently of an idyllic, picturesque or naturalistic type or as a vehicle for visual innovation.

The course will set out to analyse the evolution of one of the most important genres within art history, namely landscape, from its most idyllic perspective. The starting point will be works characterised by the predominance of nature and a poetic, idealised mode of expression. The concept of landscape painting evolved in parallel with this harmonious vision of the natural world to become a fundamental medium of expression and artistic research through which painters set down their discoveries and manifested their interest in moving forward towards a more modern mode.

The Museo Carmen Thyssen Málaga will benefit from the participation of leading experts on this course who will trace the history of idyllic landscape painting from the Baroque to the 20th century
