Household removals Andalusia - UK

Postby RATTY » Thu Sep 26, 2013 3:28 pm

Due to my wife's age and ill health we are considering moving back to the UK.

Does anyone know of, or better still, recommend a company that will transport household contents from Southern Andalucia - (Antequera area) back to the UK (W.Sussex area)

Thanks to anyone with any CURRENT info.

Personally used (more than once) and never had any problems with, and know others who have been perfectly happy with Union Jack - the original, the one with his photo in the ads that appear in most of the English papers.

I had a bad experience with Union Jack only this year, and my move was to West Sussex too. The quote for my whole house of furniture and loads of cartons was acceptable, so I agreed the time and date. My goods were packed by a really good team of men who were very careful and thorough and were taken in three or four trips in a small transit to their 'depot' where I was told it would be loaded onto a larger vehicle for transport to UK. I was a bit concerned at this point as I had fully expected that they would load directly onto a large lorry at my house. I was told that three days later it would be on its way. I travelled to UK and after a week and not having any contact from the company I phoned them to ask for a confirmed date for delivery. I was shocked to be told it was still in their depot and they hoped to get it on the road in a few days. At this point I assumed that they were probably waiting for another consignment to help fill their truck, and therefore be more economical for them. What I was unaware of was that they do not actually have their own lorries, but they buy space with other removal companies. In my case they used FastCat Removals.
On arrival at Poole Harbour the whole consignment was stopped and searched by UKBA and Customs. They found drugs in the other part of the consignment, but the whole load was held up until Union Jack could fax a full itinerary to Customs and they could send someone from their UK depot to separate my items. Every single carton was opened, unpacked, and repacked (very badly) by Customs officers before being sealed with tape stating that they had been searched. A few small items were missing when I unpacked. Although I was only less than 2 hours drive away it was another 2 days before I got my furniture as they had to get another vehicle to Poole to pick it up and deliver to me.
The whole experience was awful and I felt I had no control over where my items were at any time or when I would receive them. Maybe I was just unlucky, but I also realised I didn't ask all the right questions from the start. So whatever you decide, be sure to get a confirmed delivery date, and also know exactly who will be transporting your goods. It may not be the company you have entrusted your worldly goods to. I was expecting my move to take 5 or 6 days but it was actually 18 days until my furniture arrived.

Best to stick to one that is tried and tested, no messing and fully insured. I can vouch for Jimbothescot who lives in Spain, in Almeria and has a large lorry making regular trips to and from Spain. He is the sole owner of the business and gives a very personal service. No warehouse to stack your stuff before delivery to UK, he collects in his big lorry and it stays there until it reaches it's UK destination.

I have used him twice and never a problem and I know personally of 2 other people in our town who have used him and were entirely satisfied.

www.jimbothescot.com is his website but usually best to call him. He speaks a form of English! lol

Hi biribiri,

"Emailed him over 2 yrs ago re a part load from UK- Spain."
I wouldn't hold that against him, had you been serious you would have phoned if you hadn't had a reply in a timely manner, emails can go astray .

With Brittany Ferries now having Free WiFi and the guys with their Smartphones, communications should be improving while they travel ........... 8)

I´m using Jimbo to bring something over from the UK at the moment.
I emailed him and got a reply a few days later.
Up to now I´m happy including the costs, which are very competitive.
Typing "Jimbo the Scot" into Google brings up his website for contact details

If biribiri would like to either e-mail me again or pm me their e-mail address I will check back through my mails and see if I did indeed receive a mail which I failed to reply to or whether it has disappeared in cyberspace.

If I have failed to reply, then my apologies for that, and I will hold my hand up and admit my failings if I do find a mail from him/her.

I will never deliberately ignore an e-mail.

Regards

Jimbo

Came back to UK to look after my dad, now gone. I had to go out, so told him a bloke called Jimbo The Scot may ring as he was bringing some stuff for me. I reminded my dad "remember, Jimbo the Scott, you got it Jimbo the Scot" As I was closing the door my dad asked "Is he Spanish?"
He had all his faculties about him. I just shook my head and left :wtf:
Jimbo was great. Would highly recommend.
