Hello all,
I'm still in my research phase regarding a possible move to the area in 2015 /16. I'll be of retirement age but was thinking of continuing my self employed businesses to some extent. One is feasible because it can be conducted via the web, the other is teaching / instruction and is very much hands on a bit like a Yoga class.
Having taken a glance at this site: http://selfemployedinspain.com/cost-freelance-spain/
It seems more complex than in the UK. Here I'm VAT registered for the larger business but not the smaller, after all there's a turnover threshold. Does that apply in Spain?
Any thoughts would be welcome. Thanks.

If it is allowed on the forum, I would suggest you buy 'You and The Law in Spain' by David Searl, latest edition.
I am not Mr Searl nor related!

Thanks. That one will be on my reading list.

Trouble with books is that they are out of date as soon as the'y've gone to print.
Tax laws are changing really quickly.
I feel it's better to go on info sites.
Blevin Franks have a comprehensive guide that you can look at online.

I think all the accountants are plying their trade, though.
I would just go to a local Spanish gestor and then cross everything, probably easier for the yoga gurus than the rest of us/

Thanks; I'll see how much they charge for a "conversation"infoseeker wrote: Blevin Franks have a comprehensive guide that you can look at online.
I can't really go to a Spanish gestor as I'm still in the UK but reading the various online information I'm amazed how punitive and "disincentivising" the Spanish VAT regime is. No starter threshold and a standing charge of €250 / month for the privilege of running a business. That's another £2K overhead p.a. before you turn a profit. Ok, you can claim it against profit on your tax return but it's still a monthly charge to be met.
Is this a regime to dissuade the evaders or a desperate attempt to rake in revenue?

I think it is to dissuade anyone who wants to compete with established businesses.
