Malaga city

Postby MagicWriter2015 » Sat Aug 21, 2021 11:01 am

Hi, does anyone live in Malaga city? Which would you say are the best/safest areas to live in? Trying to find somewhere flat to live after living inland for a few years, but the main coastal areas seem quite expensive for the size of properties you can rent (we have been spoilt living inland). We want a quite area, but not a dead one, where you don’t see anyone. Hope someone can help, this search is becoming a bit of a nightmare to be honest!

Have you looked east of Malaga city, along the coast towards Torrox Costa? I would think that anywhere nice and safe in Malaga city will be very expensive. It depends on your budget. I would think for a two bed apartment you'd be looking at at least 650€ upwards but so many on the coast will only rent for part of the year and chuck you out for July and August. We would like to be somewhere flatter but, despite the hills, we shall stick it out for a while longer as it's quieter up here away from the coast and we could not bear living in a communal area with other people.

Agree with wicksey. Anywhere half decent in malaga city is going to be expensive.cheaper out towards the east. Maybe algarrobo costa etc. Its all flat and you can walk all the way through to caleta and torre del mar on the prom.

I have no personal knowledge of the place, but Rincon de La Victoria would be close with easy access to Málaga.

Thanks for your replies, we have decided to look in Torre de Mar down to Torrox Costa. Problem we are having though is finding a long term rental as opposed to a winter rental 😒

Finding longterm lets along the coast is a problem due to the money owners can make off summer and winter lets and being tied down to having to rent their property out for 5 years minimum. Make sure you read up on the longterm rental law as agents and owners will try to screw you over. Make them aware you know the laws before you start .

Algarrobo etc is popular with germans who come for the winter.etc for torrox have a look at torrox property services f.book and website.

Torrox Costa apartment (on the road from the motorway by lidl and aldi, 500m to the beach), just seen it on Wallapop for 550 a month.

I was just in lidl, even tho it's September, and it's a horrible windy day there was a fair bit of movement / traffic

Torrox Costa is still very busy. Couldn't find a parking space yesterday and barely got a table at the Spanish place we eat. There were people queuing at 3pm awaiting a table, like August. Have you looked on Kyero.com?

We are looking at this area as well, but as we both work at malaga Airport we can't decide if its too far to travel every day.

We are here now for our 2 days off having a look around at various houses etc.

Hi folks, we have found somewhere we like in Torrox Costa, have put down a deposit to secure it, just got to sort out the legalities now. Been very stressful few weeks and yes, it was still busy there yesterday, but it is slowing down. Think the kids go back to school next week so folk might be having a last minute break.

Thanks for all your replies and wish anyone else looking to relocate good luck. It’s not easy as there seems a lot of competition out there.

Keep your fingers crossed for us that there are no hiccups and we can get moving early October.

We can get to the airport in about 40-45 mins and we live about 7 mins from the motorway junction, but it's not a journey we enjoy. It's not a commute I'd like to do each day but then you're probably a lot younger than us. It's 120km round trip so it would rack up the kms in your car/s.

I think times have changed Wicksey, many years ago people wouldn't look at jobs more than 5 miles away and that was pushing the boat out, at least that was how it was where i live. Since modernisation and machinery took over, there is less need for man power and jobs became scarce, people now have to look further afield and a 40 min trip is considered normal nowadays. I am glad i don't have to do it but the younger generation are probably used to it.

My journey to work in the UK varied and the longest was from Colchester to Bishop's Stortford each day (before the A120 was dual carriageway) and was a long haul. I was in my early 30s but it still killed me! We've always had to drive around 30 mins each as we worked in different country towns and lived between the two, plus we also went out on visits for our work entailing more driving. However, if you have the choice of where to live and you both work in the same place, then it's probably easier to try to avoid a long commute. It's the cost as much as the time spent in traffic, with fuel so expensive here now.

Fuel prices are very high and yes i agree there is alot to consider.I think many people who have now returned to work have had a sharp reminder at how much commuting to work costs. It's little wonder that many are in favour of being able to work from home.
