They want it to be scrapped generally, but as the article points out this would have to be throughout the Schengen area.

I think it will happen for economic reasons as much as anything.

Its just the tourist minister musing. Not much else. They could bring in extended holiday visas like france etc but considering they havent and they are more focused on the nomad one for example. Then it doesnt seem that they are that bothered. They have had a bumper year with tourists this year anyway

Time will tell...Spain has had 2 yrs of covid hitting their tourism industry and just when they have had one good year a recession looms. The tourist minister probably has his eye on what is to come.

its not in Spains hands. They are a Schengen member so have to abide by the rules. Opt out of Schengen or ask for a special rule by other members but I cant see the other 26 agreeing to that. The Uk were never members hence a Spaniard can come to the UK for 180 days in one trip.

I understood that many countries, dependent on tourism, would like the 90-day rule scrapped. However, if most of a country's tourists come from within the Schengen area then those countries would not have much interest in supporting countries who have large numbers of UK tourists or even, second home owners. It's something on a back burner somewhere but may bubble to the fore one day.

No more British snow birds.

Easily fixed by Spain - issue an easy to get 6 month visa.

Or enter into a bilateral deal as with New Zealand - whose citizens can stay in Spain up to 6 months with no visa.

Yes easily fixed like france etc have done but i guess its not of real importance to those high up. Standard holiday makers spend more. And half of EU northern europe already spends lots of the winter here anyway with their big pensions etc.
