Driving in the UK with a Spanish Driving Licence

Can you visit the UK and drive a car with your Spanish Driving Licence? My son in law wants to visit and take us to the Spanish Embassy but I don't like driving these days on the motorways in the UK and he offered to come over and drive us to the Embassy in Manchester. Will he be able to drive a hire car with his Spanish Driving Licence? He obviously passed his test in the UK years ago and changed his UK licence for a Spanish one when he obtained his residency.

We have hired cars in England and also a friend put us on her insurance so we could drive her car over there, so we gave her copies of our Spanish driving licences and there were no problems.

We regularly hired cars in both UK and ROI using our Spanish Licences when we lived in Spain. No problem at all.

We have just wondered if anything had changed with the rules after Brexit.

Good Point! Our last hire was August 2020.

I drove my friend's car in England last year and this year on her insurance OK. She does house swops and so is used to adding 'foreigners' onto their car insurance from all over the world.
