Filter in water supply

Postby Lyric » Tue Sep 28, 2021 12:03 am

Campo dweller therefore agricultural water.
In the supply to the house there is a single filter. It contains what were originally white crystals.
These are now black and I think need changing. I have no idea what they are.
I expect they come from a ferretería but what would they be called please.

If the filter is similar to mine then you unscrew and change the whole filter/ cartridge.
Mine is sold at Leroy Merlin.

I haven't had a go at it but it looks like it's a clear plastic container, about 20 to 25 cm long full of crystals.

Looks like it just unscrews and it just fills with new crystals.

Yes that's the stuff, as we have one of those filters. They last for years (although ours never went black!). We have bought replacements in Mavi in Torrox but I expect it's cheaper to buy a big pack. As we've only replaced it twice in 10 years we didn't worry too much at trying to source a large amount.

I confess I didn't know what it was for, it was put in when we did the initial refurbishment and changed from the under house tank to the much larger deposit. It has therefore done getting on for 12 years. No wonder we have lots of cal !

We have a cal filter, like a plastic sieve, as well to catch the bigger bits and then the crystals seem to help reduce the hardness in the water. Certainly our kettle only has very little cal in it. We have another inline cal filter in the water pipe before it comes into the house and through the aforementioned filters which catches most of it. Knowing we are on the same water system I would imagine you also get a large amount of the white stuff too.
