Can anyone tell me what the Spanish is for the grids of metal reinforcement that are put in concrete slabs? The word I have heard is something like (forgive phonetics!) meeyasoo. I have tried every combination of spellings, and my local builders yard men are very helpful, but not exactly literate (or numerate, come to that!).

Thanks Izzie - now do you know how they say "nut and bolt" - is there a word or phrase for when you want pairs? I have the words for "nut" and for "bolt" but wondered if there is another way of asking for them!?

Failing that, has anyone recently come across large sheets of thick woodchip boarding with a tongue and groove edging - the type used to put down as flooring? Our builder man who has bought it before now cannot find it at any of the local wood stores between Velez and Motril.

Something rude? What can you be thinking of? Tongue in grove=machihembrado (literally male female)
The boards themselves are "tablas machihembradas" although I have seen listón used instead of tabla.

Sometimes direct translations can work simply because of the logic behind them. I often understand a Spanish expression I've never heard before, even though it doesn't exist in English because It's obvious what it means.
Sometimes I might do the same with an English one and usually get a laugh because of it but the person often gets the gist

We bought some recently, and I think it was called 'mortero'. It is currently locked away in the lavadero, so I'll check in the morning and post again if I've got it wrong
