Paint for workshop/garage floor

Postby olive » Tue Jul 29, 2008 1:47 pm

My new garage and workshop is complete now.

Is there a paint here in Spain for floors? In Britain there was but I can't remember the name of it.

In the UK Johnsons floortread is the usual suspect.

Garage floor paints should be available in most good paint an DIY shops, I have used Bruguer brand and found it fine. How well it lasts without flaking seems to depend on the evenness/quality of finish of the concrete screed..ours was not great so we get it flaking off...

I would have thought that the paint used to seal flat roofs, round here they call it "Gaucho", would do the job. It's a rubberised paint and dries very hard. It is usually red, but is available in other colours.

Could I use this rubberised paint in a small store room in an underground garage? Primarily I am thinking of fumes.

I have only used it outdoors to maintain the seal on our roof terrace, but not aware of any fumes. It is water based so not likely to have any. You will need to water it down following the instructions on the container or as advised by the people in the shop where you buy it.

I intend to use it for the floor of the shed I am currently building, but the floor will need to be in good condition otherwise it may flake off.

Thanks for that La Raya. I just thought it might be quicker and easier than tiling! :)

We used Bruger "Pintura para Suelos". We have it outside in full sun on the side terraces and I have done the workshop floor with it. It sticks like caca to a manta and is very resilient to wear. It has faded outside but is still definitely "Green" (our choice). Highly recommended. 4 years and counting!
