Lavanda. Is the inspection hatch in the flue itself and if so where did you get the inspection hatch ? We have a similar flue arrangement but no access to clean the flue at the bend though the wall. Any ideas / names of sellers of 150mm pipe inspection hatches sought.

My OH cut a hole in one of the pipes big enough for a small brush but less than half the width of the pipe. He then cut a cover to fit well over the hole and secured the cover to the pipe with big jubilee clips. It works for us BUT it's not scientific, he warns. In the Sierra de Gata people install a T pipe, with a removable cover on one of the short ends, at bends. The short end with the cover is at the bottom and collects the tar stuff which is removed by undoing the cover. Brushes can be inserted into the pipe via this method.

I just wish we had known that bit as well last week!

Apparently there is some better stuff and I'll post the name in a couple of days because I'm off until then.
Thanks Lavanda. Much appreciated,

I got fed-up with tar from the olive wood seeping out the joints of the flu. When back in uk I visited a specialist and he knew all about Spanish wood burning stoves. He had a supply of male / female converter fittings made in Stainles steel. I replaced the lot with stainles steel and never looked back. No more smelly tar. I didnt fit the spinning top because my friends often gets stuck with the tar residue and he has to climb up a free it off. So I stayed with the old chinamans hat.
