soalr panels advice needed
Hi we have a large water tank 2,000 litres. our plumber has said that we will need three 2.3 m panels . We only want to use this between May and September for hot water as we have an olive pip boiler for the rest of the year...three panels so big seem a bit over the top. Has anyone got any advice ???
many thanks

I assume your 200 litre tank is for cold water. This has nowt to do with solar panels.
If it's only to heat hot water you won't need three panels. One is sufficient to heat 200 litres. You either buy a 200 litre tank and connect to one solar panel, or buy a combined unit.
You didn't intend getting solar panels to heat the cold water tank?
Edited to say that I meant 2,000 (two thousand) following a correction from bowler. The post should now read:-

Sorry for wrong litre amount (I was in a rush) but my point stands. I was trying to compare 2,000 (two thousand) with 200 (two hundred) litres. Why on earth would anyone want a 2,000 (two thousand) litre tank solely for hot water? Most solar systems used for hot water are 200 or 300 litres. 2,000 (two thousand) is fine if you want underfloor heating plus hot water.

Why do you want to heat 2000 Ltrs?
Our total water consumption, hot and cold, is less than 250 Ltrs a day.
So going back to Mowser's suggestion, why not get a smaller tank, which will need less/ smaller solar panels, just for hot water?
Cheers
Gerry

MM...your plumber is right..it will take three panels to heat that amount of water. How many bedrooms are you?
