Stove door seal

Postby El Cid » Fri Jul 01, 2011 5:02 pm

The "rope" door seal on our wood burning stove needs replacing.

Has anyone done this?

Does anyone know a place east of Malaga who would replace it?

It's dead easy.
Scrape out the old seal with a screwdriver.
The new seal comes in a pack with adhesive - you simply squeeze a little of the glue in the slot and press the new rope into place and cut it to length.
You have to be careful to buy the correct diameter of rope there are several different ones.
We bought our replacement from the local ferriteria which also sells stoves.

It must be easy as we did it ourselves. Just as annforo said! Got the rope from Leroy Merlin.

We took the rusting door of our insert fire that had rattly glass and a worn out door seal into Tehesu (Velez Malaga) the other day and have just collected it. He has taken it all apart, cleaned the glass completely, put it back with a new seal, spray painted the metal parts and put a new cord door seal in for 35€. I also bought a can of stove paint (10€) and have just painted the rest of the wood burner and it all looks like new. We are really pleased with it as we were thinking we'd have to buy a new fire when we first moved in and saw the state of this one.

It's on the Pañoleto industrial estate (spelt it wrong ... should be Tehisu  ). From the main road roundabout go to the right of the blue Peugeot building and follow the road around (it turns a sharp left) and it's a bit further along there on your left. Very friendly staff :)

Thanks for that. I will get them to do it as the hinges need checking as well.

They are excellent; we bought a new woodburner from them last year. They did a superb job of fitting it.

Thirded, excellent service. I hope that our fire will outlive me but if not I know where I'll go for replacement.
