Looking for good quality, substantial mechanical closers to fit the wrought iron gates at the entrance to our edificio. The gates already have closing arms fitted at the top, but they are the cheap and cheerful type. For them to close the gates, which are quite heavy, they have to be set on full tension but this causes a horrendous "clang" which is not very pleasant for the neighbours whose apartments are near the entrance.
Ideal would be better quality ones, maybe with a gas or hydraulic piston action, which would be strong enough to move the heavy gate but would cushion the final closing action. Can't seem to see anything in the local ferreterias which would fit the bill, so does anyone have any idea where to look ?

I use one of these.

Maybe it could be adapted. Mine doesn't work very well though.

I've got an inferiority complex, but it's not a very good one!
Re: Automatic Gate Closers
This only happens when the thin rubber pad that should be stuck to one of the gates falls off. Replace and all will be peaceful againhorrendous "clang"

Thanks you two. Campo, that's a good idea - it should be easy as I have already got a similar device for getting my early morning coffee in bed, so I should be able to use the blueprint.
